About Porbandar Airport

The Civil Aerodrome Rajkot, often known as Rajkot Airport, is a public airport situated in the centre of the Gujarati city of Rajkot. Its IATA code is RAJ. The Airports Authority of India is in charge of this airport, located around 3 kilometres from the city centre. There is just one terminal at the airport right now. However, there is a bus station approximately 4 kilometres from the airport from which commuters may go to other locations. Travellers can also utilise private vehicles or municipal buses to navigate the city. The distance between the airport and the train station is just 3 kilometres. In addition to taxi services, free trolleys, a lost and found baggage counter, help for elderly citizens, physically challenged and infirm travellers, wheelchairs, a childcare area, and first aid facilities, the airport provides several amenities. To meet the high demand from Rajkot's manufacturing companies, Rajkot Urban Development Authority & Rajkot Municipal Corporation has proposed a plan to extend Rajkot Airport's runway from its current length of 5,400 feet (1,600 m) to 6,000 feet (1,800 m). This will enable the airport to accommodate larger aircraft and provide connectivity to cities other than Mumbai. However, this wasn't feasible if the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the Civil Aviation Ministry were involved. However, the AAI still needed to be able to bargain with Western Rail over land purchase costs.
