About Rajkot Airport

Rajkot Airport (IATA code: RAJ) is a commercial airport located in Rajkot, India. It is the fourth-busiest in Gujarat, behind Ahmedabad, Surat, and Vadodara. It is located 4 km from the city centre. At the moment, the Rajkot Airport has only one terminal. This terminal has a total capacity of 125 passengers for departures and arrivals, with one boarding gate on the ground level. At the terminal, there are six check-in desks and two security checks.

The airport currently has major capacity limits as a result of the city's growth and the residential and commercial buildings that have sprung up surrounding it, making expansion unfeasible. The existing runway can't handle planes bigger than the Airbus 320 family's 737-800, which are the heaviest planes flying out of the airport. As a result, plans for a brand-new airport were approved. The Rajkot Urban Development Authority and Rajkot Municipal Corporation also announced plans to expand the launchpad from 5,400 to 6,000 feet to accommodate larger planes and provide interconnection with major cities other than Mumbai to meet the high demand from Rajkot's industrial companies.
