About Bhuj

In the Kutch District, Bhuj is a walled city and a large town. Hindu temples, historic buildings, old palaces, gateways, and interesting lanes make up the maze-like construction. Bhuj, known for its Kutch handicrafts, has grown in popularity as a tourist attraction and a meeting point for historians. Rao Hamirji founded Bhuj in 1510, and it became the state capital of Vikram Samwat in 1549. During the reign of the Jadeja Rajputs, Bhuj was the capital of Kutch (Kachchh) for 29 years. Bhuj was an autonomous princely kingdom even during British rule. Another significant event occurred in Bhuj in 1822, when the foundation of one of the earliest Swaminarayan Sampraday Temples was placed. Despite the 2001 earthquake, Bhuj redeveloped at such a rapid speed that it is now one of Gujarat's most well-known destinations. It is now the administrative centre of India's biggest district, Kutch. Bhuj's average maximum temperature varies from 40∞C in the summer to 2.2∞C in the winter, with a low of - 5.5∞C in the summer and -13.3∞C in the winter.
