About Indore Airport

The name of Indore's Airport is Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport. It is a customs airport that serves Indore and its nearby regions. It is 8 km west of Indore and is Central India's busiest airport.

Indore airport is named after Indore's Maharani Ahilya Bail Holkar of the Maratha Empire's Holkar dynasty. The Airports Council International selected Indore's Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport as the best airport under the 20 lakh annual passenger footfall category in 2017. In addition, the Worlds Standardisation Certification was bestowed to Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport on 9 April 2018. The Indore airport began its 24x7 operation with night landing facilities on 24 March 2018.

In 1935, after consultation with Nevill Vintcent from Messrs Tata and Sons (Aviation Department), the Holkar State Administration chose the Bijasan site for constructing the airport. In July 1948, air services began from Indore to Delhi, Mumbai and Gwalior. In 1950, the airport was handed over to the Government of India under the Central Financial Integration Scheme. Moreover, the airport has received approval for operating international flights, thus making it the first international airport in Madhya Pradesh.

Indore is a city located in the western region of Madhya Pradesh. The name Indore is derived from Indreshwar Temple. Local landowners of the trade market situated on the Narmada River valley route founded Indore in 1715. Then, it became the capital of the princely state of the Maratha Holkars. It also served as the Madhya Bharat's summer capital and British Central India Agency's capital before forming a part of Madhya Pradesh. Cenotaphs or Krishnapura Chhatris, dedicated to the city's Holkar rulers, lie on the Khan River's bank.

Extensive deposits of bauxite, iron ore, clay, limestone, fireclay, feldspar, steatite, ochre and manganese have been found in Jabalpur. The river Narmada runs south-southwest for 18 km. It forms the Dhuandhar waterfall and passes through the marble rocks.
