Sabarmati Ashram, also known as Harijan Ashram was originally established in Kochrab, Ahmedabad and was later shifted to the banks of the Sabarmati river in 1917. It was earlier called Satyagraha Ashram and was home to Mahatma Gandhi from its inception up to 1930 when he vowed not to step foot into the ashram till India was a free country.
