The hostel is very well located for Kyoto station as well as giving easy access to the river and Gion. The place itself is clean and well maintained, the staff are great and our room was a tatami mat room of a good size. My only adjustment requests would be to give the main bedroom light a dimmer or a bedside light as our only options for lighting were full blast or pitch black and to send the door code to guests on the day of check in as staff may not always be immediately available to let you in and in the winter this can leave you on the cold street with bags for a short while. Overall an average/reasonable price and I would recommend/return.

The worst place you can ever imagine(trust me, I am an avid traveller, experienced quite a lot of low-budget hostels all over the world). Not only the room is unbelievably tiny and stuffy, the host will peek into your room, unlock the rooms to inspect during your stay. We gently asked the host, Morimoto Midori san, to not come into our rooms (which is a common sense I believe - ) and she refused to. Instead, she asked us to find another place to stay. We were literally kicked out out of the blue. PLEASE note that I know how much I was paying for, and I wasn't expecting much - but this just does not make sense. Running a business is not a joke. No one deserves to stay at a place like this.

Remember that you get what you pay for. The place was clean and quiet. I struggled using the bathroom, which was shared with others and was extremely small. Still, clean and functional. The hosts could supply some kind of mattresses to make it easier for Western guests to sleep comfortably. My brother struggled a lot sleeping there, while I found it okay. I suggest not to spend there more than a couple of days, unless you're used to Ryokan

Staff are super friendly, and were able to communicate as necessary in English. My room, although on the smaller side, was plenty big enough, and even came with AC and a window. It had several power points and wifi (16Mbps/2Mbps). I opted for a room which shared a bathroom, and this wasn't a problem. It was kept clean, and I never had a conflicting schedule with another guest. The place was a little noisy in the early evenings some nights, but overall my stay was very pleasant. I'd stay here again.
