Review: Embarking on a tuk-tuk odyssey from Nanu Oya railway station, my boyfriend and I found ourselves weaving through the charming streets of Nuwara Eliya, all for a modest fare of 1200 Rupees. Our journey to Cocoon Hills was peppered with a few adventurous detours, courtesy of a slightly misguided Google Maps pin. However, every wrong turn was a right adventure, and it only heightened our anticipation. Upon arrival, albeit slightly disheveled from our mini expedition, we were greeted with the warmest of welcomes. The hotel staff, seemingly unfazed by our unplanned tour of the vicinity, greeted us with steaming cups of tea and coffee—a gesture as comforting as a warm blanket on a chilly day. They even braved the rain with umbrellas, ensuring we didn't get an extra, unintended shower on our way in. The hotel itself seemed to whisper tales of old English charm, set against a backdrop of picturesque hills—a sight for sore eyes (and slightly weary travelers). To our surprise, we were the only guests that night, making us feel like the lord and lady of an enchanting hillside manor. Our first room presented a small hiccup, with a toilet that seemed to be on a break. But faster than you can say "plumbing", the staff courteously whisked us to a larger room, with no extra charge! Talk about an unexpected upgrade! The room was a haven of cleanliness and comfort, boasting crisp sheets, fluffy towels, steaming hot water, and a heater that battled the nippy air like a valiant knight. The next day, post a muddy golf adventure, we attempted a covert operation to hose down our trainers outside, to keep the hotel’s pristine floors unblemished. But, lo and behold, a staff member emerged, insisting on giving our shoes a spa day, washing and drying them with a smile. Now that’s what I call five-star service! Breakfast at Cocoon Hills was a culinary crossroads where East meets West. We dived into both the English and Sri Lankan breakfasts, a decision that left our taste buds in a state of euphoric delight. The chef didn’t just cook; he conjured magic on a plate, making us feel right at home. In essence, Cocoon Hills is not just a hotel; it's a sanctuary for couples and families alike, offering a warm embrace in the cool climes of Nuwara Eliya. Its charm, warmth, and top-notch service make it a must-visit. We can't recommend Cocoon Hills enough—if you find yourself in Nuwara Eliya, make sure this cozy haven is part of your journey.
