The building and the courtyard are beautiful but the room layout was horrendous. Bedrooms face inner courtyard and are dark. Service was fine but not excellent. Our suite had a maisonette sleeping area with a slippery, squeaky and steep staircase connecting the bedroom and the rest of the room. Going to the bathroom at night was a real mission of trying not to break a limb. On top of that, the stair was so squeaky walking on it meant not only waking up everybody in your room, but in the neighbouring rooms as well. We had a loud ac unit rattling through the night which the management fixed upon request. Food wasn’t great at breakfast, better at dinner. Lovely live musing on weekends. Cocktails were overpriced and not too good. Overall it’s a superb location in the fort and an impressive historic building, but that’s about it for the good stuff. If it was half the price, it would make sense.

Beautiful property. Oasis of calm. The Sri Lankan breakfast each morning was delicious. And Dilan saved our favourite veranda spot for us every day. Top marks all round

Great 5 star hotel in central Galle with pool and outside street view tables for drinks and people watching. Stayed 2 nights, lovely staff and good menu breakfast. Pool was quiet so nice and relaxing. Our room (library suite) was massive with beautiful furniture and a bath in the room, plus a separate bathroom. Only negative was the room was a little noisy at night from various bits of machinery just outside bedroom window. Always travel with ear plugs.

This is a lovely hotel, great architecture and beautiful. Unfortunately there’s a literary event going on which has taken over the whole hotel! So it’s chaos!……not a positive vibe with a buzzy atmosphere more that the event is more important than the guests of the hotel!……the pool, again beautiful but really don’t fancy lounging around the pool area in a swimming costume whilst there are lots of strangers milling around! All the staff are kind, polite and extremely helpful….except the manager, unlike all the other boutique hotels we’ve stayed at the manager has always introduced themselves and been welcoming, at this hotel I would not be able to describe them! Though I’m sure they’ll make themselves known when we check out! Sri Lankan staff are what make this place and the stunning design of the building! Beautiful and during any other time would be a fabulous stay…..so when you book make sure there are no events on….we booked this hotel in 2022/3 so this was not highlighted…..
