A real treat to be able to stay here. Booked last minute due to good reviews and I can say they deserve them. Very friendly couple who run the place, read their story on the website, and speak English Japanese and Mandarin. Have been in Kyoto for years and are able to give plenty of advice on what to do and where to go, and are always down for a chat in the evening. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and there’s laundry too. Check out the cafe next door for a cheap cake and tea run by a government initiative for disabled students. Overall had a great stay here and hope to be back.

We were so thrilled with our stay here. Our room was beautiful, private, and very very comfortable. The common area was peaceful and had delicious food. The hosts went above and beyond to make sure our first visit to Kyoto was great, which it was! The location was also amazing. If we came back to Kyoto we would definitely stay here again. The hospitality at Guesthouse Soi warmed our hearts and souls for the rest of our trip :)

This hostel is truly wonderful. The staff is extremely kind and helpful. The rooms and common areas are clean and spacious. The breakfast is delicious. The only downside is maybe its location as it is not really central. However, bus stops are close and if you don't mind walking, you only need 30 minutes to get to the Nishiki market. All in all, I would definitely recommend the Soi Guesthouse.
