Everything is new and fresh in the hotel. One can see how much work is made to every detail. It feels like the staff wants to do their best, sometimes, the service is very slow, though We took a half-board menu, which was very convenient. The food was very fresh and exquisite. The staff is very attentive to allergies. We spent two days in the hotel, and both breakfasts and dinners were the same. Japanese breakfast is something unusual for a Western person, but one can perceive it as a part of the experience We had a private onsen (bath) in the room - it was the best choice, it's pretty small, though. We also booked a common (bigger) one for an hour - it cost extra! A downside, I was a bit upset with: because of our baby's nap, I asked to postpone the check-out for an hour. The hotel charged us extra (for an hour! due to the baby nap!). I believe it's petty after one has already paid 1.6k for two nights Overall, the hotel is not very baby friendly (which is common for Japan as far as we've seen)

Great service, rooms and location. Amenities were great but a bit misleading from the pictures - you no longer get a fridge full of drinks as shown. Instead there were 2 juices and some water only. The staff are also amazing - really solid service. The reason for the 3 stars is because the kaiseiki meal was extremely underwhelming. Unlike other places that provides great meals off the bar, you had to pay an exorbitant amount to get some of the better items. Either way none of the food was very impressive, which is disappointing given it was the main reason we came. Other place itself is mainly banking off of their location. If you want great views and a relaxing experience, this is your spot. If you are a foodie, I would not choose this spot.

Honestly, stay anywhere else. The staff are incredibly rude. They are not family friendly. This place was dark, damp and dirty. The food was awful. This was meant to be the end of a beautiful Japan trip and it ruined it. It was billed as luxury but was anything but.

Fantastic, relaxing, stay over Christmas. Spent 4 days here exploring Hakone and experiencing the excellent onsen the resort offers. Highly friendly staff that worked extremely hard to help us enjoy our stay. Japanese service has a high bar and we felt it was often exceeded here. We did our best to communicate in Japanese but they were always able to help when we ran out of vocabulary and had excellent English on command. The location is brilliant, as it's very easy to explore hakone and the surrounding area - only five minute walk from gora station. The western room was well equipped and the beds were very comfortable. Having an onsen on the patio was a real pleasure. Would absolutely stay again!

Karaku is a beautiful and modern ryokan experience. The area is meticulously curated to by stylish, peaceful, and comfortable. The amenities were top notch, including the lounge with complementary snacks and alcohol for most of the day. The meals at their restaurant were also fantastic. The kaiseki was a nice medium between traditional and modern Japanese cuisine. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The onsens were great. We loved the private onsen with garden view as well. All of the staff were friendly and helpful.
