There is potential for Hinode to be the perfect accommodation, the staff provide an incredible level of service. Unfortunately, we had a few too many issues, that were never really treated well. 1) when we arrived at Hinode, there was a very bad smell in our room, we informed hotel staff, and rather than move us to a new room they gave us a humidifier which didn't help at all. We couldn't sleep the first night due to this horrible smell and they moved us the next day - we should have received a refund for the first night. 2) we dined in the hotel restaurant on the first night, and specifically told the wait staff that my wife had an onion allergy. Half way through our meal we realized there was onion in the food and my wife's neck started turning red and swelling - lucky it did not become serious. 3) we tried breakfast in the restaurant the following day, it was supposed to be a buffet, but we weren't informed of the change until the food came out and it was a very sad breakfast with a very average omelet, packet soup and dry bread. 4) on my last day at the hotel, I used the onsen one last time and almost cut myself on a very sharp piece of metal laying on the floor - imagine if a child had stepped on this... When I gave it to the receptionist, she just seemed shocked and didn't say anything else. The hotel staff were amazing and very kind. Generally their level of service was exemplary. However, the issue is the restaurant and cleaning are outsourced to a vendor - so the quality of service is unpredictable. It is normal for things to happen, but how they are managed is the true sign of service, and unfortunately I think the hotel could have managed these issues better after they occurred.

Great stay but not many food options at the hotel. Ski in and ski out service was amazing. Breakfast was okay but not really what I'd expect from such a nice hotel. Rooms are pristine and very comfortable with great winter views. Buses to take you to Hirafu, Kutchan and other places where you can get food.

Cons. 1. Breakfast is sad. 2. Ski in only not out. Morning travelator doesn't operate till 830am. 3. Hotel management didn't inform option for non all mountain pass during booking. 4. Rooms not refresh daily. Pros. 1. Friendly staff 2. Ski valet

We'd stay here again in a heartbeat. Beautiful, well-appointed rooms with everything you need for a comfortable extended stay. We were in a 1-bedroom suite and had a fully stocked kitchen with fancy and modern appliances, Nespresso pods, washer/dryer with provided detergent, kimonos and slippers for the on-site onsen, bluetooth speaker, and interesting books to browse. The room was very spacious for 3 adults, and while the sofabed was made up in the bedroom, it was easy to transfer the bedding to the living room couch. Since the hotel does not have a lot of rooms (compared to the Hilton, Green Leaf, etc), it felt like a very private boutique hotel. There was rarely anyone else in the onsen; meanwhile, when we ventured over to the outdoor onsen at Green Leaf, it was packed and not at all relaxing. The on-site ski rentals were like a private shop, and the ski valet quickly learned our names and room number. The front desk was very friendly and helpful, and the concierge service was useful for helping us make and cancel bookings. We took the convenient shuttle service into Hirafu most nights for dinner. The hotel restaurant did look good, but it was very quiet.
