Hotel Alpenblick

We spent a couple of nights here recently. Firstly the place and the town surrounding this hotel is amazing . Beautiful views and calm and quiet and peaceful . A few issues we faced : 1) firstly there are no lifts . We got a room on the 3rd floor and while we were helped with the luggage sent to our room while we took a city tour ( we arrived early ), we were not able to get any help when we checked out during early morning . There was only one help available and he was busy at the breakfast room . So I had to do it all by myself , lug 2 large suitcases down 3 floors….Not a happy situation . Interestingly I found almost all guests were senior people at the breakfast table so it will be a good idea for the hotel to mention there are no lifts or notify guests that they may have to carry their their luggage themselves to their rooms . 2) we only had breakfast so I can’t comment about the resturant . We had a buffet breakfast which was ok . Nothing out of this world . 3) the rooms are quite small , not much space to move around in the room . No closet to hang your clothes …. There is an open hanger space and a couple of small cupboards by the bedside . Same issue with the breakfast room. It is kinda small and one feels quite cramped moving around . 4) the staff are friendly but we had a mixed experience . The person in the morning was extremely nice and polite and welcoming while as the person at night seemed to be in a bad mood . Can I have my room keys I ask and rather abrasively she goes “ oh you can pick it up yourself from the rack behind “ . She gave me a vibe that I disturbed her and I am thinking to myself …am I not the guest ? and I have never been asked to pick up my room key from a rack behind the reception desk … in no city in the world . Maybe it is the norm in this hotel but I am not used to that as an international tourist so she needed to show some understanding . Overall , for the price they charge with all the fancy Michelin rating and all the history ..they are quite a bit of an oversell.

Wow! We went to dinner here as it was my birthday. The meal was completely amazing. As I have a gluten allergy, I very much appreciated the extra attention to detail on this. There were many items on the menu that were vegetarian as well. First we started with fried potatoes; we have had plenty of rosti while in Switzerland but this was amazing - brought to exactly the right level of crispness, topped with Swiss cheese (which shouldn’t have worked but it did …) and the lentils, which included an unknown spice that I’d never tried before. My husband and I both had the lake fish, which had an amazing sauce. Finally, the dessert was a revelation! It deserves its own review :) cream - the best - plus a chocolate mousse that was To.Die.For. The prices were high but … it’s Switzerland. Even a simple not very good meal out will set you back about 2/3 of the cost here. You deserve it ! :). Go try it ! I know we will be back when we return to the area. The only even slightly negative thing I can say is that the restaurant had confused our reservation - we wanted to sit outside and I’d written to them about it several times, but it still got lost. They did accommodate us but they could improve the reservation process for sure. 1000/1000 recommend !
