Hotel Edgar Quinet

One of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had. 1. Hotel has no lift / elevator (you have to carry your luggage up yourself) 2. There is no concierge 3. Hotel staff has no manner 4. The rooms are basically subdivided flats. 5. Dirty bed linen (made my skin itched after sleeping on top of it for merely 10 minutes) 6. Broken shower head 7. Malfunctioned hair dryer 8. Moldy floor matt and walls 9. TV does NOT work, light switches do not work 10. There is no air conditioner 11. Room gets stuffy if you close the window 12. Room gets extremely noisy since you are 1-2 levels above the street full of restaurants and bars 13. Yeah just DO NOT come here, it's a complete rip-off for the price you pay. Sleeping in the park is better off than staying inside this hotel. It's inhumane and a disgrace. We left immediately 1 hour after checking in, went to a better hotel. I highly recommend Hotel Sophie-Germain.

I am only giving one star because Google won’t let me give less. My experience was quite appalling. I felt abused and robbed of my rights, my voice and any sense of justice. I was coerced to pay €100 or be kicked out. The place was run by what I can best describe as a dictator or an insecure little man, and mindless and intimidated minions. Upon arrival, I was met with an hour of constant arguing and harassment from the staff, who absolutely bullied me as a young woman. Their misogyny and eye rolls at me explaining the situation calmly made me feel less than human. They refuted facts. They completely disregarded my integrity as a human being. I was never ever in the wrong and had an abundance of evidence in writing to prove this. They refused to take accountability and used their position of power to take more money or threaten to kick me out to sleep on the street. Despite having a confirmed reservation, they refused to provide me with access to a room until my partner coughed up €50. Instead, they demanded that I call booking.com to sort out the issue. This unnecessary and prolonged confrontation left me feeling distressed and unwelcome. I just wanted to pass the time in beautiful Paris but they kept me in their tiny lobby as a hostage and coerced me to pay more money. Then they trapped my partner and I for an additional 20 minutes the next morning for more money. Another €50. They did advise me of an additional payment for my partner but then staff and I came to an agreement that it was unnecessary. They deliberately fooled me and didn’t clarify that I needed to pay more at the time I asked months ago. They didn’t confirm the additional payment so they could just spring it on me later on that it was necessary cost, just as I arrived at the hotel in an evil plight to sabotage tourists when they’re most vulnerable, off a plane, hungry, and with very little means of booking something else last minute. If they had been clear that I must pay this additional cost earlier, I would have and accepted OR I would have searched for another booking. Adding to my frustration, the room I was eventually assigned lacked basic amenities that should be standard in any decent hotel. Not only was there no fan or a window to outside to provide relief from the sweltering heat, but the bathroom was equipped with only two small mirrors placed at an impractically high level. The hotel was clean, which is the only positive. Although it was clean, the disregard for guest comfort was evident throughout my stay. There wasn’t even a bin until day 2, which made me feel as though I was trapped in garbage and morally filthy place. The window in my room only opened up to a covered courtyard, denying me the opportunity to have any fresh air or natural ventilation. The lack of proper airflow made an already uncomfortable room even more stifling. Overall, my experience at Hôtel Edgar Quinet was marred by the unprofessional and bullying behavior of the staff, in addition to the lack of basic amenities. I strongly caution against staying at this establishment, as their treatment of guests is unacceptable. Instead, I recommend exploring alternative options in the area that prioritize customer service and provide a comfortable and welcoming environment for all guests. Let it be clear, I’m happy to pay for what is justified and reasonable. I just need honesty and notice, as I’m sure anyone would. They deliberately blindsided us and tried to kick us out onto the street with nowhere to go just to charge someone else more money, as it is peak season. They tried to punish us for getting a good price because we booked so far in advance. Happy to send through screenshots of the conversation through too. I feel absolutely bullied, abused and like anyone managing a hotel could just take advantage of their guests, they hold their position as hotel managers to dictatorship levels. I’ve never EVER in France been met with such hostility. Paris you’re beautiful and I will try not to let this awful and gut-wrenching experience ruin what you mean to me.
