Wow Hotel Monterey in Kyoto was excellent all around, great location next to a lot of activities, staff was super helpful, good prices including inside parking, and the room was bigger than usual with notably comfy pillows! Thank you for providing phenomenal service at a reasonable price!! The one downside was the spa did not allow people with tattoos to enter. I understand the cultural relevance. This is an old custom that will hopefully adapt to include everyone. I've never been turned away yet when wearing tattoo coverings but I didn't feel like trying this time. We still had a great stay & appreciated a great experience!

Rooms are decent. We stayed 6 nights in 2 double rooms for 3 adults for 6 nights. Quite squeezy for 2 adults with 24" luggage each, leaving not much movement space. Overall, the hotel is decent and clean and comes with bath tub. Other than check in/out, you will need to go to the reception area left. Other than that, you hardly get to come across any hotel staff upon entering the hotel premises as rooms are accessed via lifts on the right. Some TV upgrading going on during our stay there but not much of inconvenience experienced by us. 3 mins walk to a nearest station with no elevator or escalator. Walk further down if you need to access via elevator/ escalator. Location wise, close to nishiki market, shopping area, Kyoto Imperial Palace, Nijio Castle.

It’s in a great location. There is a lovely little supermarket with all Japanese meals. There are coffee shops nearby and pastry shops. My only gripe is that they charge you for early check in. If you are going to charge me for early check in then I think you should be refunded some money when you check out early.

They were able to give us a single room for four people and the room had two bathrooms. The included breakfast had a nice variety of food, I did try the natto beans, they were good but I don't think I would eat them every day. The hotel is a short walk to the train station and a slightly longer walk to the riverside trail. There were several shopping areas close by and many restaurants.
