Staying at Sumihotaru was an incredible experience. The home was well fitted out with fantastic amenities and was located so conveniently nearby Tambaguchi Station and even Kyoto Station if you don’t mind a 20 minute walk. There are plenty of sleeping options so if you’re a group of 5, you’ll be able to comfortably fit into the home. Floor heating was even available which I was super surprised and impressed by, so walking on the floors in winter was extremely comfortable. A pair of slippers are also provided for those who prefer to use them. The washing facilities here were fantastic, with a washer/dryer unit provided as well and detergent. That was fantastic for me as I had a couple of items that needed a wash after travelling for a week in Japan. A drying rack was even provided for cloths that wouldn’t fair to well in the dryer. What I enjoyed most about this stay though was just how cosy and clam the atmosphere of the place was. Coming home after walking around all day in the cold and being able to warm up quickly and relax in the Japanese style tatami room was awesome. There was even a window that looked out over a small garden which was a really nice touch. Overall, if you’re wanting to experience a Japanese style home with some people extra comforts, the Sumihotaru Honoka stay is an absolute winner, providing the perfect balance between style, utility and comfort. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a truly unique Japanese experience. I definitely couldn’t fault this stay on any level, so I would rate it beyond 5 stars if that were actually possible on this review.
