The Stay Hotel New Star Ikebukuro is located conveniently near Ikebukuro station (5-10 minute walk, depending where you exit). I guess this is what you call the typical business hotel for business travelers. It has most if not all the essential you'll need for the stay. But is not a fancy like some of the big name hotel, but is not bad. The place is old, but they keep it fairly clean (to Japan standard), compare to some motel and hotel. Don't expect a nice view or nice lighting, but is a decent place to stay if you don't want to share rooms. The Miscellaneous The hotel is located in a good location with different various shop, restaurants, and other amenities nearby (I mean it is in Tokyo). They are conveniently walkable. Sunshine City is also a walkable distance as well. The staff seem sincere and try to explain the process to travelers. They mention you should leave the key with them before you leave to explore so they can clean the room when you are out. All in the all, it is not an upscale place, but is a decent place if you are looking for something not super expensive to stay the night.

I booked non-smoking room but the front staff says there is non-smoking room left so I have no choice but to stay for 3 nights. I really hate smoking smell and this is not my false. I have lived Japan for a year and travelled many times this is first time I experienced this which reflects unprofessional services and manner. I asked that can I change room for tomorrow? The staff said may be and no any response and formal apology. The location is 10mins from station by walking not 5 mins that they advertised. Can I call this lying? Not recommended anyone to stay here, worst and poor experience ever!

Small rooms, got a smoking room but booked a non-smoking. No shelves or wardrobe to unpack clothes in so you have to live out of the suitcase. Stayed in a single room. Other rooms might be bigger and have better storage. Restaurant serves breakfast but there are better places for same price or lower just around the corner. Breakfast was not included in the room rent. Rooms were clean and had a fridge and waterkettle. Check-in at 15:00
