A perfect place to stay in Kathmandu! The rooms are spacious and clean, have strong Wi-Fi, and the area is very quiet at night. There are a lot of good restaurants nearby, as well as shops, and the Durbar square is about a 10 min walk from there. The people that run the hotel are very kind and helpful and they also offer trekking tours through their agency. Would definitely stay there again!

Note: there is new ownership, so older reviews may not apply! My daughter and I were booked for one night at Kathmandu Sunny Hotel prior to leaving Nepal. Unfortunately, she got very sick the night prior to our arrival at the hotel, and continued to be quite sick in the morning. I went out early in the morning and the proprietor directed me to the nearest pharmacy. Later in the morning, they called the room and asked what time we would be taking breakfast. When I said we would not be eating because of my daughter's illness, they offered us late checkout at no fee so she could rest until we had to leave for our flight. When we came to the lobby later in the afternoon, they brought us warm water and expressed genuine concern for our well-being. I learned that this is a small, family-run business, and they seem to extend that sense of family to their guests. The room rate was excellent--it was clean and the beds were very comfortable. The wall unit for heat/AC was very helpful since my daughter wasn't well, and it was the best hot shower I had in our stay in Nepal. Even the wifi connection was better than a much more expensive hotel we had booked at the beginning of our stay. Although we did not get out to see much in the surrounding area, the location is also excellent, in easy walking distance to many attractions and shopping, while also far enough off the main roads to be quiet even during the day. If you are looking for an affordable, comfortable hotel with staff who will attend to your needs, this is the place!

A nice family owned hotel with heat in the rooms (though it sproradically turned on and I couldn't get my room warm by US standards). It is clean and walking distance to Thamel, the tourist area. There are two cons: 1) I stayed for 8 days and my room wasn't serviced even once. Though not sure if that's the norm in Nepal. 2) On my first day there I asked about local attractions and they insisted I use their car and driver (at a much higher cost) than a taxi because "it would be better." They also offered to have one of the owners go with me as a tour guide and pay her tip. It was my first day and I didn't have a lot of time to sight see so I went with what they said. But I was annoyed that they didn't offer me any other viable options. I'ved traveled the world and Nepal is safe, I would have been fine with a taxi. And the owner who went with me as a "tour guide" had no sense of keeping time to see all attractions and when things were open. We ended up wasting time waiting for one of the temples to open and only seeing 3/4 planned stops. I have no problem paying for service, but if you want to add tour guide services do your research and make it a great experience.

Simply Amazing. I loved this place and for the price you simply can't beat it. I cannot believe other people rated it lower. Everything is New & The price is amazing. You get a very comfy bed, CLEAN sheets, towels and the entire place is CLEAN. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Heat & cooling. Shower and bathroom are great. Nothing negative to be said and I am a solo female traveler who values cleanliness and a bit of comfort. This place was VERY comfy & located right in the heart of Thamel. A+
