I went to Mahekal in November '23 and our group of 4 loved it. I felt like we had landed the jackpot of an affordable, amazing resort with beach access. The staff was always so kind and nice to talk to, everyone remembered us at every meal and bar. I didn't want to go to Cancun because I wanted a quieter experience to lounge and relax. The palapa garden view was awesome, we had hammocks, and we ate and drank well! One note is that we were content with our garden choice over beach as the beach is public access so it can get loud over there. My favorite meals were breakfast and nice dinners at the resort, the green juice was awesome. The bar will make you fresh mango margaritas! I will come back so soon.

I've read so many negative reviews that got me a bit concerned. But as it turned out we loved the hotel. The room was fine, not well soundproofed but it's authentic and we loved it. The service was nice, the resort wasn't that big in comparison to others in similar locations so you got to know the staff. The pools and beach are great, the kids loved it. It didn't bother us that people walked by, not annoying at all - actually the guards kept sending people off so the hotel guests could enjoy the area. We got half board, and I was happy with that. It was nice to get off the resort and try other food. But based on the price we payed we would have liked to have free non alcoholic drinks, that would have been super nice. Also, my husband and I had our three kids with us. They placed us in two separate rooms - that was fine for such a short stay. But when we booked it stated that the rooms would be next to each other - but they were far apart. That was annoying. As a conclusion: I highly recommend. The resort was small and quiet. It was like a tropical getaway despite being right at the cities edge.

Overall we enjoyed our stay at this resort. We had the all inclusive package for 5 nights. Our room was nice and clean. The resort itself is nicely designed and well maintained. The staff were really nice and took care of us. The resort beaches, however small, are nice and clean. The pools are good size and well maintained. Where this resort fell short for us was the food (the reason for 3 stars). The food was average at best which is a pity. Breakfast was very bland, nothing special. The lunch and dinner menus had a nice variety but the food itself was not that tasty. I think overall the food lacked basic spices like salt and pepper. The resort is located in a very nice and lively area with a lot of restaurants and cafes around. So if we want to visit the resort again, we would only get the basic package and would go out to eat. There was a special dinner for Christmas eve that we needed to pay extra for, $120/person on top of the all-inclusive. We took issues with that and they resolved it to our satisfaction so credit to them. But generally speaking, they need to reconsider this as it really doesn't make sense for an all-inclusive guest or any guest to be forced to pay this much extra.

We stayed for 5 days over the holidays. The hotel has beautiful grounds. Lots of places to walk around and the oasis gardens were very tranquil. The beach was very nice. High quality loungers. Very nice pools and restaurants. Even though the resort was packed it did not feel crowded. It is located right in Playa Del Carmen so it was easy to step outside and tour about town, try the local restaurants and cafes. The staff was very friendly and professional Some things that could use improvement to get to a 5/5 rating: - the breakfast buffet and lunch were good. The dinner buffet was lacklustre. More vegetarian options and more Mexican cuisine would have been fantastic - more water bottles. Ended up going to the oxxo across the street to buy more water - a play area for young children - fewer signatures. Switch to a mobile app or something like this

The hotel is beautiful. The property pools are very nice and the rooms are OK. Honestly, my experience started very bad by the service at front desk by Teresa (she was not helpful at all, Being with a baby trying to ask for an earlier checking she said they were not having availability) which i understand But then when we did had room availability did not send anyone to walk us to our room, we had to figure out where our room was , and send us to the last room with no access for strollers. Honestly, I have never had that poor service before and this is very disappointing for this place as it is truly beautiful, but for me, the service is a big part of it so if I could, I would give it a 2 out of 5 stars
