This is the nicest hotel we have ever stayed in, and we have stayed in many hotels all over the world. It is a palace that was built in the late 1500s. It was restored recently and the craftsmanship is wonderful. The rooms are filled with beautiful artwork. The breakfast was fantastic. Our server Abdu was very friendly and professional. We wish we could stay here longer.

This is a palace or rather an art museum and you live there for a while. Balconies allow views of the city. It is at the end of a narrow lane and there is parking, but be aware that you have to traverse pedestrian areas. Nice breakfast and great coffee.

We (two couples from the United States) recently spent seven nights at the Palazzo Viceconte in Matera, Italy. Our stay was excellent. The hotel was completely renovated about ten years ago, and is in excellent condition.. It is located at the highest point in the city, so many of the rooms offer superb views of the city and the surrounding area. The rooms are large and comfortable; the bathrooms are modern and well-appointed; the beds are very comfortable, and all of the bedding and linens are first class. The daily breakfast offered a wide variety of food choices, fresh made coffee, and great service by Silvia and Ivana. The long walk from the elevator to the breakfast area was made very pleasant by the beautiful rooms you need to walk through, and some very fine paintings...The front desk staff was superb: Carmela, Danielo, Arcangelo and others. Their restaurant recommendations were uniformly good, and they made all the bookings on our behalf. They lined up excellent private cars and chauffeurs for us for airport pick up and drop off, and for several day excursions. The drivers were very friendly and their vehicles were spotless...One piece of advice for prospective travelers. Be aware that the Hotel is located very close to the Duomo, the major (and beautiful) town cathedral, which rings it bells in carillon on the hour. Although the sounds are beautiful, for those rooms in direct proximity to the Duomo, they can also serve as an unwelcome wake-up call early in the morning...Overall, the Palazzo Viceconte gets an excellent rating, and we recommend it highly....Ellie, Mary Ann, Roberto, and Franco
