Piccolo Hotel Boutique

Lovely converted apartment, communal microwave, glasses and the all important bottle opener! Our room was rather small but comfortable with a mini fridge and tea and coffee making facilities.... would stay again in a bigger room.

Ok hotel but "boutique" definitely does not apply here. Usually boutique refers to something luxurious with lots of character but that was absolutely lacking here. It doesn't necessarily make the hotel bad, but it does create expectations that are not fulfilled. The location is near a busy street and because the windows are barely isolating, you really need to bring earplugs if you value your sleep. The arrival was a bit messy, we did get access to our room one hour before the actual check-in which was convenient, but the arrangement didn't feel very customer friendly because of the communication style. The bedroom has a bit of a weird and not very convenient setup, specifically no table to eat on and a bed that would probably not fit someone taller than 1m80. There was a small terrace, but since it came out on the busy street you'd be inhaling exhaust fumes together with your breakfast. We thus ate breakfast on our bed. Bathroom is absolutely tiny and has some mould and ants (I did notice they used some product against these on the 3rd day). The shower was a bit strange. It had a "luxurious" showerhead but the position right in the corner of the shower seemed a bit weird and prevented us from fully enjoying it. Finally, the breakfast for me wasn't that great. Lots of sweet things that didn't taste great, but that might just be me. The fruit and the packaged yoghurt were ok but in the end we just went somewhere else for breakfast. All in all, felt a bit expensive for what we got but it might just be due to being Rome.
