Tickets can be a little expensive if you’re traveling as a group. No free parking. Recommend taking a bus or taxi but if you have the money, nearby parking is available. The castle was okay. Was expecting something more but i did captured some good pictures. I only give a 4 stars instead of 5 is because, inside the castle (interior) no pictures are allowed. But then again, inside the castle it’s mostly just empty rooms with maybe a painting. One area was under construction so I didn’t get to see it. Maybe future tourists may have better luck.

This is a beautiful castle and garden. We purchased our tickets upon arrival and it was no wait. The castle is very interesting including the floors which creak and sound like birds chirping. The artwork is beautiful but you will find out that most of the artwork is not the originals which was disappointing. You can not take photos inside the castle, which could have made more sense if the artworks were the originals but it didn't take away from the experience. The garden, though, is spectacular and you can even feed the fish at the bridge.

Nijo castle is a fantastic place for tourists if they would like to learn some rich history of Japan. The entrance fee is quite cheap. And you can easily get lost in transition walking through the gardens and castle grounds of the place. Many paintings have been touched up and thus might not look the same as before. I highly recommend this to anyone who wishes to immerse into the rich Kyoto culture.
