Senja Hostel Kuala Lumpur Chinatown

First of all, there is no rooftop terrace as suggested in the pictures. We were told it was closed until "maybe next month, I don't know". So please! If there is no terrace, at least REMOVE those pictures from the booking site! It is dishonest and misleading. Also, there was this strong, terrible chemical smell in the room that made it hard to breath. Wifi was barely working in the rooms, only in the reception area. Please invest in a cheap extender, available on Lazada for RM20. Hot water dispenser does not work.

This is the worst place we have been in Malaysia, due to the behavior of the owner. We arrived to stay for two nights and when we checked in, we were only charged for one night. This was not a problem for us, as we sometimes extend our stay to enjoy the places we visit, and pay for everything when we leave. The problem arose when we finally managed to fall asleep, as the noise and music from the bar upstairs was constant and intense, and the walls were thin. The owner came to our room at midnight while we were sleeping, banging on the door because we hadn't paid for the second night. Really? What was the need to do this at midnight? Can't we sort it out in the morning? Then, at 7 something in the morning, the owner came to our room again waking us up, quite agitated and banging on the door, asking when we were going to pay. This led to a heated argument between both parties (including myself): The owner: "This is Malaysia! These are our policies! And I am Malay! Here, you pay first, etc.." speaking on behalf of all of Malaysia and all Malaysians (not Hindus or Chinese, you understand..), as if this justifies all that had happened. Me: Angry and still sleepy from the lack of rest in this hostel, seeking explanations for why they had to wake us up at these hours and behaving like an angry person, matching his attitude. In the end, we made a scene at reception, which I am ashamed of. I suppose the owner likes to create this kind of atmosphere in his business. I don't know what he is afraid of with the fact that we wanted to stay one more night. The hostel wasn't full, and in the past months in this beautiful country, many hostels prefer that we pay on the day of check-out and we have never had any problems, in Malaysia and all over the world. I have never experienced anything like this in any hostel, in any country, and with owners of many nationalities, even "Malaysians". It is clear that we do not recommend this place. I also have no choice but to apologize for my angry and upset behavior that morning.
