A unique hotel with rooms in caves. Very rustic and comfortable. The floors in our room, while beautiful, were slippery and uneven reclaimed stone from the area. But this was part of the experience. Staff are very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful.

The beauty of Matera needs to be enjoyed in an accommodation as unique as Sextantio. The staff was extremely friendly, helpful and kind to us. We especially appreciate their restaurant recommendations! Our room was very cozy, clean and comfortable. The breakfast offered was truly amazing, we loved every single part of our stay! The setting and atmosphere was just magical. You will not regret this hotel!

This is the coolest place you’ll ever stay. Seriously. Amazing hotel. Wish I could give it more stars. We stayed here on our third stop on our 4 week Italy honeymoon trip and it was one of our favorite places to stay. The rooms is essentially a very old cave that was created thousands of years ago and used by people until the 1950s, but now with an insane amount of luxury to transform it into the 21st century. Our room had a great bathroom (with a door), a huge bed, nice tub (no shower, but that’s the fun part), a mini fridge, and a nice table. One tiny part that wasn’t the best was that the AC unit was turned off (we also didn’t know we had an AC and how to use it) and it got super hot in the room, but the next night the front desk helped us turn it on and even gave us a fan. The staff was super professional, nice, understanding, and helpful! The Breakfast buffet is out of control good with an insane spread as well. The hotel is also in a great location right on the edge of Matera with views of the surrounding cave dwellings and greenery. As part of the add-ons, we did an in-room massage, which was amazing. We absolutely loved it here and would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Matera (which is one of the best cities in Italy).

After 10 years, I still remember clearly my stay in this hotel. It was amazing, we stayed here 2 nights; my brother and me toured Italy for 3 weeks, including Sicily! THe breakfast was amazing and the best orange juice I had in my life! LOL. I reviewed this place just now because back then I did not really do reviews but now I am planning, God willing to go back to Matera, and hopefully stay here again!
