Southern Cross Atrium Apartments

Located almost next to Cairns Central and our room 1425 was clean and well presented upon arrival. Not big but ok for our 5 night stay. No lifts and wifi pretty slow at peak times. A good 15 min walk to Esplanade.We would stay here again.

FALSE ADVERTISING, RUDE STAFF, UNRESOLVED ISSUES. Disappointing Representation, Room Condition, and Unresolved Issues The Southern Cross Atrium Apartments website paints a picture-perfect scene with palm trees, a tropical paradise, a breezy vibe, and a sparkling pool. However, the reality was a stark contrast. The room lacked the refreshing ambience promised; instead, it felt stuffy and uninviting. The view faced an uncomfortably enclosed area, sparking safety concerns in case of an emergency. Moreover, the room condition was subpar, showing burn marks on counters, a grimy kitchen backsplash, and rusty appliances. Despite raising these concerns with Karen at check-in, no resolution was reached. She took an age and argumentative stance with us and tried to blame us for their false advertising. Despite leaving promptly, the mismatch between the promised paradise and the actual conditions left us disheartened and sceptical about the hotel's website portrayal. After bringing this up with Karen, she claims they "don't guarantee a view." But there was no mention or depiction of rooms facing concrete walls on their website, and she even admitted no one would want to stay in a room that looked like that in the pictures. Still, she expected us to stay there. These rooms are in no way similar to what was pictured. Understandably, we didn't expect the exact same view, but should be offered something at least equivalent, as this changes the whole vibe of feeling like being in a resort vs. being in a cell block. Additionally, we were denied the chance to switch rooms for three days, with threats of extra charges for "cleaning fee" for the room change once available. There is a whole building of rooms like this, and these should be offered as a different room type "no view, bargain room, etc" at a discount, rather than being pawned off as the same thing. Despite our immediate departure and addressing concerns promptly, they seek to charge us a cancellation fee for three nights. Our advice: explore other options; there are better choices in Cairns.
