Succeed Terreiro do Paço Suites

Had to find a place at the very last minute. Location is perfect, price is okay, great sharing living room and kitchen. The room is good and mattress super comfortable. Can be a bit noisy but that is the price to pay to be in the center.

Pros; The location was excellent, there were tons of bars and restaurants and historical sites within walking distance and the metro was less than a ten minute walk away. Cons; The room that I got looked nothing at all like the photo that was posted, it was much less spacious and much less attractive. They do not inform you that if anyone in the entire hotel pushes the wrong button on their air conditioning remote (the *mode* button) it will shut off the air conditioning throughout the hotel until the next day when housekeeping can come through every single room and set them all back on the same mode. The wifi password is scribbled on a piece of paper next to the reception desk, and nowhere in the room, so make sure to take a look at that upon arrival yourself. It is a romantically ancient hotel, just like the entire city, but we did go wary of the deafeningly creaky floors in the hallway outside of our room and even the ones in our room which made it impossible to discretely go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. We only had two outlets in our entire room, the third was broken. For these two outlets you had to decide if you preferred having a light source plugged in or if you wanted to charge your iPhone that you'd been using all day. Not a big deal but to only be able to use the offensively bright overhead light before bed wasn't exactly relaxing. Finally, every night the front door of the hotel is shut I believe around 9 or 10pm, much too early to still be open after going out on the town for the night on vacation. So every night after an exhausting day of exploring we'd return to the hotel and press the doorbell just like we were told to do. And every night we'd press it every different way possible, never hearing the bell go off inside or seeing a light to signify that anyone had heard it. So every night the only thing that successfully roused the desk assistant to the door would be a knock with our barehands. And every night he would answer, tell us not to knock, and then show us how to use the doorbell in the exact same way we'd tried for the last three minutes. The exchange became less charming as time went on. Overall for the location I would happily recommend it, but for the price I felt like it just wasn't worth what we got out of it. We went to bed most nights a little more exhausted and annoyed than I would've liked.
