We recently had a wonderful stay at the Sylvia Hotel, a gem nestled in Vancouver's Westend. This hotel uniquely blends old-world charm with modern amenities, creating an experience that's both nostalgic and comfortable. Its prime location in a serene area of the West End downtown, just moments away from bustling shopping areas and top-notch restaurants, and adjacent to the picturesque English Bay, makes it an ideal spot for both relaxation and exploration. The Sylvia Hotel's staff were the epitome of hospitality, welcoming and eager to ensure a pleasant stay. Our room, a clean and cozy space with a breathtaking view of English Bay, featured comfortable mattresses and pillows, spotless bedding, and a bathroom that, while modernized, still retained the hotel's charming historic character. Notably, the water pressure was excellent and hot water was readily available. Dining at the hotel's in-house restaurant and lounge was a delightful experience. With its elegant decor and large picture windows offering stunning views of English Bay, it was the perfect place to start the day. The menu, characterized by its coastal-inspired cuisine, was both delicious and beautifully presented, complemented by an impressive wine list. The restaurant's outdoor patio, overlooking the scenic bay, adds to the charm, especially with their signature blueberry martini. The Sylvia Hotel, being a designated heritage building, resonates with history and character. From the ivy-covered exterior to the grand entrance with marble walls and gold-molded ceiling details, every corner of the hotel whispers stories from the past. Its proximity to Stanley Park and the Sea Wall on English Bay offers ample opportunities for outdoor activities, making it a haven for those who love nature and tranquility. We highly recommend the Sylvia Hotel for its perfect blend of historic charm, modern conveniences, and unbeatable location. The arrival. Check in was efficient, friendly and quick. Parking is under ground for $25 night, free EV charging. The room. Teeny tiny but clean and comfortable. Great view of English bay. The restaurant. Staff greeted and seated us quickly and were very friendly. The restaurant was very busy but wasn’t loud. The decor is from another era and gives the restraint a really cozy warm feel. He ordered the Sylvia burger with bacon, she ordered the chicken pot pie. Food arrived quickly and was hot, fresh and delicious. Great serving size full of flavor.

They have live music Wednesday/Thursday/Sunday 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm. Good service, tasty food and good wine🍷Breakfast, lunch and dinner every table has an amazing view of English Bay. Saturdays & Sundays: from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm brunch is served and their crepe super delicious 😋 if you there for dinner highly recommend saving room for their decadent Mocha Ice Cream Pie that consists of Oreo crumb, warm Kahlua chocolate, buttermilk flakes. The Sylvia Hotel is definitely one of Vancouver’s best-kept secrets with old school charm and modern upgrade balance. The old-fashioned character and friendly service give travelers a home away from home. Fantastic location with a wonderful beachside dining experience until this day. Fun Fact: the famous Sylvia Hotel cat, Mr. Got To Go, has inspired three popular children’s books about the stray cat who arrived at The Sylvia Hotel one day and decided to check in permanently.

I only took off the star because the rooms are quite small, and the hotel elevator is TINY- plus one was out of service while we were there. But the location is fantastic- being near the water is lovely and the sunsets were so nice to see out our window. The history in the hotel is amazing- old photos on every floor! Super cool. The restaurant needs some more veggie options- we didn’t eat there because of that. Over all I would highly recommend this hotel for a Vancouver visit.

This review is for the restaurant only. The good: Location: 5/5 Staff: 4/5 Live Music: 6/5! The bad: Food: 2/5 Drinks: 1/5 The drinks had great concepts but tasted watery and lacked flavour. There are places in the area that charge less for better. At $18-20 apiece I feel like this is hard to write off. The food - we came for Thanksgiving and ordered from the set menu. We could not help but feel that the 3 courses did not feel like $74 - the appetizers were lukewarm soup or half a cup of dry salad, the mains were decent, and the desserts were alright but nothing to write home about. We chose to view the high pricing as a way to pay for the live music and location; but to be honest, the food and drinks are the heart of a restaurant. Even with the greatest music, location and service, the overpriced underwhelming food and drinks taint what would otherwise have been a phenomenal dining experience. I do want to commend the hardworking staff for keeping up with the busy night, and the musicians for their phenomenal performance. Management, please improve the food and drinks. I want this historic establishment to continue to thrive. Thank you.
