Traditional Townhouse( Machiya) with modern facilities This is our first trip to Kyoto and we made an excellent choice of accommodation that was comfortable and conveniently close (50 m) to public transport routes. The accommodation was an old townhouse or Machiya , last used as a kimono shop, that the owner had converted with taste and sensitivity into a self-contained 3-bedroom unit. It was obviously a labour of love. While the bedrooms were furnished in the traditional style, the bathrooms were very modern. The modern kitchen was large and very well equipped making it convenient for families to self-cater. The entire house is well heated. The beds deserves special mention; they were very comfortable with duvets that were light, soft and very snug. Nishimura-San who manages this property was excellent. He spoke good English, was helpful and knowledgeable. I recommend this property to anyone who wishes to avoid big anonymous hotels while on holiday in Kyoto.

House was retrofitted but remain all original structure in Japan style. 2 bath rooms and 4 Bedrooms are, tidy and clean, but the mattress is too soft, not good for elderly, the living room with 6 feet head room and is bit small for 5 or 6 people. It is located in a quiet and peace old residential area, you can taste how the local people living here. Take 20 mins ride to the CBD. No parking lot available in the house, you should find public parking with 10 mins walk nearby if you drive. The house has been renovated but remains in its original structure in Japanese style. The two bathrooms and four bedrooms are tidy and clean, but the mattresses are too soft and not good for elderly people. The living room has 6 feet of headroom and is a little small for 5 or 6 people. Located in a quiet and peaceful old residential area, you can get a taste of how the locals live here. It takes 20 minutes to get to the CBD. There is no parking lot at the house. If you arrive by car, there should be public parking nearby, a 10-minute walk away.
