Unfortunately, our recent visit to The Abbey was disappointingly poor value. The check-in experience was fine - the lady who served us was very pleasant, but the amount of paperwork required (when this was all already provided on the website) was a little surprising. We were shown to a room on the ground floor, and immediately noticed the large street-facing window with no blinds or nets, just a roller curtain. This means a choice of either no natural light, or no privacy - the room is very visible from the main road. This is different from online photos and Streetview which shows there used to be curtains at some point - these need adding back ASAP. The room left lots to be desired - the mattress was clearly old and sagged quite heavily in the middle, there was no chair for the desk, the Smart TV was tiny and barely adjustable, the bathroom felt dated (although the toiletries provided were of a premium quality) and had a couple of hairs left over from previous tenants. Our sleep was particularly poor - the windows are single-glazed and of a sliding design which means essentially no sound isolation from the outside world, so cars and conversations are audible all night. Worst of all was an overnight receptionist who was very loudly talking on the phone, on a social call, around 1am - we had to leave the room to ask the receptionist to please be quiet. The doors also lock with a single, very old style lock which, combined with the relatively thin nature of them, does not inspire confidence in the security of the room. Overall, we felt let down, particularly by the quality of the room and sleep, the lack of privacy from a ground floor room with no blinds, and from an unacceptable amount of noise from staff overnight.

Outside looks impressive...inside reception area let's it down immediately. No welcoming by receptionist who was sitting behind the door. All very subdued. Shown to bedroom downstairs. No overhead lights so very dark. Old fashioned curtains that don't meet when drawn on a rod ready to fall down. Wardrobe door wouldn't close so propped closed with a chair. Headboard flimsy and noisy. Bathroom tried to be made presentable but dirty grout on tiles. Window iron framed and dirty. Bathroom vanity unit doors didn't close. Overhead shower screen on rusty rail. Room needs updated .

Came here at the end of two week European travels and was pleased with the generous and nicely decorated rooms and the overall cleanliness; the staff was nice and very accommodating; and the location was perfect - 2 min walk to Noting Hill Gate stop yet neighborhood was quiet with tree-lined streets. Only critique - would be wonderful if they had coffee/tea/pastries at breakfast time just to get guests out the door with a little a little something. Other than that I would highly recommend!

Fantastic location , just around the corner from the tube - we were greeted with a lovely warm welcome , such lovely friendly staff. The Hotel style is quite British, huge sash widows so lovely & bright, room decor is a mix of old & new , great size and lovely temple spa goodies in the bathrooms - no need to bring hair products ladies ! Have to mention that although we were so central to Notting-hill the road was so quite I felt I was in the countryside... will definitely book again !

The Abbey, is rather primitive:- tiny bathroom, with its step-in bath shower, small basin, and the window refusing to be opened and no other heat adjustment. The rooms were clean. It had a coffee/tea maker only. The biggest drawback was no lift and our room was on the third floor. The staff were very pleasant though. It is ideally located within the Notting Hill Gate. No bar or dining options.
