Booked a room for an afternoon recharge before heading home in the evening. Room adequate for £39 and was as expected for the rate. The check-in was fast & pleasant, and room six was clean. The TV remote didn't work, but I'm sure if we'd checked with reception, they could have changed the batteries had we been really bothered. The bedroom furniture was modern and matching. The bathroom decor and fixtures were clean but showed their age. I'm a bit of a mattress-snob, and although the bed was nothing like my own, there can be no complaints as I expected springs in my back for the rate paid - and was pleasantly surprised that everything was comfortable. All clean, too. There were only three thin pillows on the double bed through, which meant putting the towels underneath to get the required height. With us checking out without an official sleepover or using the shower, I can not comment on the water pressure, or if any neighbourly disturbances happened, or how the breakfast was, which was included but not taken. Although still very much budget - It is an old hotel, and there are far worse establishments in town. This hotel clearly does the best with what it has to work with, and it's clear the staff have pride in the place.

So where to start. The positives: Good location, reasonably nice staff and good price. The negatives: The room I stayed in is severely in need of renovation because the ceiling was painted white mostly and then a the end was just brown colour. The paint was peeling near both the bedroom and bathroom window and the curtains weren’t the correct size to cover the whole window. Overall it just wasn’t a very nice room. Although saying that the price was reasonable but not enough to justify the bad quality of the room. Breakfast was included with our booking however I wouldn’t recommend. Took quite a while to take our order and whilst making the food and getting it to us was a quick process it wasn’t very nice. I ended up leaving it and going to the local McDonald’s instead. Very doubtful I’ll be staying here again unless I’m low on money or it makes big improvements.

Hotel wasn't clean , now I know this is a budget one which I was happy to pay but it should at least be clean. Also the shower in the family room 8 has hardly any power in it , the management need to put this on and try it out see for themselves. Few of the towels although clean as they smelt clean were badly stained they shouldn't be put out for people . Same as the bed sheets these shouldn't be put on beds when there is brown stains and other marks so obvious on them . Blood stained plaster lying on carpet as soon as we walked into room. Toilet wasnt clean .... as was bath wasn't as had hairs in the bath ..Why isn't there a mirror on wall in the bedroom?, A family room it should at least as standard have that . There was a dressing table in bathroom with a mirror attached but my hairdryer wouldn't reach all the way over and into that room . No housekeeping at all for the 4nights we stayed , we had to empty our own bin and leave bag of rubbish in hall every day luckily I had brought my own bin bags ... Breakfast was okay . What I would say is that the staff were very nice Sharon was lovely as was the younger lady with the glasses as was her partner them who run it he was nice to chat to . Breakfast staff were nice too . So all in all the cleaning needs to improve and not to put out stained towels and stained bed sheets .Shower needs looking at . And please a mirror should be on wall in family room 8.

Absolutely disgusting booked 6 nights but left early as the room was awful and the breakfast was dreadful. There allergy policies are none existing put beans on my meal even though I had not asked for them due to an allergy. We complained that tv did not work and room smells of sewage. Flush the toilet and it leaks and the smell bubbles up the shower waste. After 3 days we had to go home we were still suffering after effects of eating a breakfast here. Someone had been in our room when we were out and looked through our belongings. We were so upset . We are both elderly and feel we can never stay in a hotel again we were horrified that someone could rifle through our private belongings. I would not recommend that anyone stays here. I must also point out that the fire alarms do not work god help anyone trying to escape a fire. There are no fire escapes a disaster waiting to happen. Getting down to basement ( AKA the dining room) was a nightmare the steps were steep and the only hand rail was filthy

We had a 2 night stay here and sorry to say i would never stay again and i wouldnt reccomend it either. The room was basic but looked liked it wasnt clean the bathroom sink still had toothpaste round it. The plug socket was coming away from the wall and as for the view from window omg horrendous as i was looking out onto a abandoned hotel windows smashed cutains torn looked like a zombie apocalypse. Breakfast next morning we went down to and wasnt greeted by anyone to show us our seats and when we was seen we was told to sit anywhere. They wasnt very informative about anything we had to go get our own coffee/tea and when they eventually came to take our order its as if they couldnt be bothered wasnt welcoming at all. The breakfast was awful cold beans sausage wasnt cooked properly and the coffee was awful .
