False Advertisement’ is the best description of this motel. No mention on the website that the entire front lobby bar area is under construction. Booked a ‘jacuzzi’, ‘hot tub’, ‘bath tub’ room. After discussing semantics with the front desk and having maintenance up - no hot water. Would have just booked a room without one. Was told I would be getting a credit back and / or discount for a future stay, haven’t seen either. Breakfast? Apparently served from 7-10 actually means served from whenever staff decide to show up, closer to 8. The amazing flatscreen in the room, got to use it four hours later because apparently batteries are a hot commodity and hotels with TVs don’t have spares. Everything about my stay at this place was well below what was advertised, should be expected, and the cherry on top is how management and staff handled the issues. Buyer beware, the rust and mold you see on the outside has made it’s way to the people working on the inside

Unfortunately, my stay at 'The Carmen Hotel' in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, was disappointing. The hotel appears aged and in need of renovation. Despite booking a room with inclusive breakfast, upon check-in, I was informed that breakfast was not included and had to be paid for separately. The breakfast itself was subpar - the food was cold, not fresh, and the variety was limited. The room had a noticeable sewage smell emanating from the toilet. Additionally, loud music from neighboring houses persisted until 3:00 AM, making it impossible to sleep peacefully. Despite multiple requests at the reception, the room was not tidied up daily. The only redeeming quality of this hotel is its location directly on 5th Avenue. However, based on my experience, I cannot recommend this hotel.

My experience at The Carmen Hotel in Playa del Carmen was disastrous. Upon check-in, we were unexpectedly forced to pay an additional $20 per person per day for the use of fitness facilities and breakfast, despite having already booked inclusive breakfast. The room had a sewage smell and lacked proper daily cleaning. Breakfast turned out to be ice-cold and far from fresh .The value for money is not just poor but absolutely unacceptable. Additionally, there is a suspicion that most Google reviews are fake and purchased. I strongly advise against staying at this hotel."

I only stayed here one night but the overall experience was good. I did read the reviews and realized that it could have gone either way given its proximity to 5th Ave and the noise. I made note that the music at the restaurants nearby diminished by around 7pm and it was reasonably quiet for the rest of the night. I may have been lucky as I was in an 09 suite so furthest away from 5th. The rooms are spacious and clean, very comfortable beds, large balconies and there is lots of storage space. The hotel is old and has been renovated I am sure a few times over the years. I booked a semi ocean view and that is what I received. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. They looked after my luggage prior to check in and even for sometime after I checked out. This boutique hotel is right on the beach so you can see the sunrise at breakfast or sunset at dinner while eating in the lounges on the main floor or rooftop. The only warning that I would give is that I booked through Expedia and 3 days prior to check in I was sent an email stating that there was a mandatory resort fee of $19.99 USD. This does include the breakfast buffet but I am pretty sure when I initially booked there was always a breakfast included in my booking and no mention of the resort fee. I am sure this fee does not feel good and can add up on longer stays.
