The King Charles

The hotel itself is quite something to be inside, lots of character and ornate stained glass windows. There is also a nice smell as you walk through the lobby, not sure how they were pulling that off! When we were checking out we had a bit of bad luck with an uber driver who never turned up and a guy who had already finished his shift called us another one and stuck around to make sure we were safely picked up and on our way. I couldn't have asked for much more, thanks for a wonderful stay.

First of all, the hotel was absolutely stunning and the staff was really kind. The pane windows as well as the paintings really sealed the deal as far as the appearance goes. The location is right next to the historical center, although it is located up a steep hill. If you do not like walking up that hill all the time we recommend taking the tram to the station at the top of you’re going towards the hotel and in case you’re going into the city the one downhill. The breakfast was mediocre to good at best. Some items were missing and the personnel that had to manage the breakfast area did not really seem to care or have any kind of helpful attitude. The good side was that a man who seemed to be the general manager really tried to make up for what his employees were lacking. Our first impression of the room was great, we were blown away by the space (it felt like a real living room!) and it included a little kitchen as well. But when we tried to shower we noticed the water kept changing temperature without us changing anything, all of a sudden the temperature would change to REALLY hot or REALLY cold. After trying to just take a bath because of this, we noticed the water kept flowing away because the plug didn’t seal well. When we brought this up to the employee working at that moment downstairs, she immediately came upstairs to check it out. But she only explained how the tap worked multiple times, but that wasn’t really helpful for us. She told us that her more technical colleague would arrive later and he would check it with us. The more technical employee seemed more helpful and explained that it had to do with the tap just not functioning well and that he wasn’t able to fix that at the time. We understand that he couldn’t, but hope that the hotel will take care of this for future guests. After he reviewed the plug, he told us that the hotel was full so he couldn’t get one from another room, but would try to fix it the day after (it was already in the evening). We’re happy to say they did change it for a new one! When we left the room the next day, we hung up the little ‘please clean our room’ sign on our door knob. When we came back in the evening, the sign was turned around to ‘don’t disturb!’ and our room was not cleaned at all. But again, the employee downstairs was helpful and very friendly. He gave us new towels which was really the most he could do for us at that time and that is totally understandable, though we overall we would have expected more from such an expensive hotel.
