A great authentic room, good bed and all facilities you need. The location is so close to the city center. Everything is within walking distance. We’ve spoken to the owner in the morning. We had the one room that was kept 100% authentic. The others are a bit modernized. Definitely coming back when coming to Gent!

I enjoyed my stay at the Mansion. Nice, historic building. Comfortable bed and pillows. Location-wise it was pretty good, only a short walk from the main part of town and tram/bus stops. The staff were friendly and assisted me with my luggage and offering to order me a taxi. That said, there were some issues I feel could be improved. Firstly, the room was quite unclean and in disrepair, with lots of dust/dirt and damage to the ceilings, floors, door, and walls. The floors were especially dirty. There was also no soundproofing which meant I could hear a lot of noise from outside and other guests coming and going at all hours, especially my upstairs neighbour for whom I could hear every creaky footstep. Temperature was quite warm in the room - I thought choosing the highest room category would include air-conditioning, but it did not. Lastly, the smoke from the wood-fired pizza oven downstairs was very strong in my room in the evenings. I enjoyed my stay but think it was vastly overpriced considering all of the above.

What a stunning room. I've never stayed in a room so authentic and preserved. Sure, little rough around the edges, but this added to the character. Husein, the owner very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back to stay next time in gent

So much potential but a few things to address. Let me start with the good. The staff who greeted us were great, they helped us to access our room and carried some luggage. The location is good, you're 5 minutes walk from a car park and 10 minutes into the bustle of Gent. There is no check in desk and your door opens with a code. This means you don't have to carry a key card around so to me, that's a bonus. There's free WiFi and it is fast. The room we stayed in (the mansion) was impressive, it's large and there are huge tapestries / mirrors around the walls, which makes it pretty unique. A new shower and bathroom block had been fitted which was clean and the shower itself was great. The bed is ginormous and incredibly comfy - if you are able to sleep on it! This brings me on to a few issues. Primarily, the room was sweltering. I'm not particularly high-maintenance and I don't need air con as standard, but the temperature hit us as soon as we entered and I'm guessing the room was almost 30 degrees. At home, my bedroom will often reach 24 degrees on a sunny day and it was markedly hotter than that. Opening the windows did little to help, and it meant that we spent most of the night sweating on top of the covers (frustrating when there's a great duvet that you can't get under!). Maybe this was because it was a particularly hot day, maybe it was because we were on top of the pizza kitchen? I don't know exactly, I just know it was HOT. The room was also noisy. You're on a road and can hear lorries / passers by at all times. Closing the window was a bit of a catch 22 - see above about the temperature of the room. The shower door didn't shut properly, so we had to hook the shower cable through the handle to avoid flooding the surrounding areas. There is a TV, but there were no channels tuned in. You're not away to watch the TV but sometimes it's nice to have a bit of background noise or watch the world news. Overall, a great room full of history and quality bedding /towels but just a terrible night's sleep for us this time.
