Sleepless because of the Shire Hotel. They charged me for a room I didn't want. I cancelled reservations weeks before I planned to stay. They didn't update their reservation system. I've now provided emails and screenshots showing I sent appropriate communications in plenty of time. I'm being forced into the position of requesting a charge-back with my bank because they charged me for the room. After multiple emails and proof I cancelled, they're creating a nightmare. I'll get my money back, but what a hassle!!

My wife and I stayed here for our 19th wedding anniversary. We really enjoyed staying at The Shire. It is a boutique hotel with only 8 rooms. Our room was nice and spacious. The staff were really pleasant and helpful. It was a pleasant surprise that they had provided us with a beautiful bottle of red wine in our room on arrival. As for location it is in an upmarket part and close to all sites. I would highly recommend staying at The Shire Hotel. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that they offer Free airport Transfer if you book a suite which I did and they did not mention or offer to me. This would have saved me a lot of time and money. Real shame.

This tucked away jewel boutique hotel was great. While the room was small, and we expected it to be, the space was used well and did not feel uncomfortable. We had a king bed and a killer view (see photo). It's up the street from the U.S embassy to the U.N., along with a bunch of very expensive hotels, which made the low price even more unbelievable. Harry's Bar is downstairs (unaffiliated to The Shire) and is open until 2am; a few bars and even a Hard Rock Cafe on the same street.

Positives: the amazing location and the nice receptionist Negatives: it was very dirty (hair that was definitely not mine on both the sheets and the bathroom floor even after cleaning came), there was a smooshed bug on the wall in the bathroom it was disgusting, the shower was very grimy. Generally it did not look at all like the photos and I woke up with bug bites all over me so decided to change hotels.
