Absolutely loved staying here! The front desk was super helpful, and signed us up for a reward program to earn points. We loved that it was centralized in Chicago, with a lot of attractions being within a half-hour walk and much cheaper than other hotels around. I did see a lot of reviews about the beds being too stiff, but personally, I like stiffer beds. The only complaint I have is about the pillows. The second I put my head on them, they squish down to being paper thin. Which isn't the most comfortable to sleep on. The room is nice and was very clean upon arriving. The hotel recently started having the option to add on breakfast when you pay for your room, so we had breakfast at the hotels restaurant. The food was good, a couple of things I had to ask for twice, but the service was pretty good. The table wobbled which is the case with most restaurants, but I would expect a nicer restaurant to not have wobbly tables to be completely honest. Overall my fiance and I were very happy with our stay and will more than likely stay here again when we come back into town.

The Whitehall is decent, but somewhat underwhelming for a “four star” hotel. The lobby is very small and the 2 elevators are among the smallest I’ve seen in a hotel, especially given its size. There are minor issues such as scuffed elevator panels that detract from the experience. The room was well sized and a mix of old and new. The beds looked modern and the bathroom was moderately elegant. The TV is very old and froze at least once. There is no master switch for the room lights, and lamps must be turned on individually. The real annoyance was the lack of outlets near the bed. I will say the front desk staff was very kind to us. The location is good. Considering this was one of the cheapest hotels we could find in the area the value was great. I think with a few minor improvements this hotel could be outstanding.

While I totally appreciate a historic hotel, this one was definitely oversold through their website photos in my opinion! My husband and I came here on our baby moon, and while all the staff were very nice, the quality of our stay was not. Outside of our room, the hallway smelled terribly of must. And the gym "facility" is a joke- it has all the promise in the world, but all 3 of their electrical machines (treadmill, elliptical,) are old and broken, and there is water dripping on the other wise of the room. And their water cooler in the gym is broken as well. So it really is a room with some old free weights and a single pelaton, not a functioning gym. Our room was decent, but our first night the heating wasn't working, so we had to call in maintenance who had to reset the system. after he left, it stopped working again. And while the mattress was fairly comfortable, the pillows had no support. Other than the tap water in the bathroom sink, there was no water to be found at all, which I find highly unacceptable. No vending machines, no complimentary water, no water fountains. SO, I had to take my water bottle all the way down to the restaurant attached to the lobby and ask them to refill it multiple times throughout our stay. I do not recommend staying here until they make some MAJOR renovations.
