This place surprised us. The city has a problem with drugs, that's for sure. But we felt completely safe in this place as 3 of the members of staff that work there, made sure to make us feel comfortables. Such a good price for the location. The room had all what we needed, and it was clean. Near to the Union Square plaza, the hotel is a great choice. They also let us leave our luggage for almost all day and we really helpful when we asked different questions. I would absolutely recommend this hotel and I would go back.

This is a budget hotel that is located in the Union Square/Tenderloin area. Geographically perfect within a 10min walk of Powell St Station (direct train to SFO Airport) and the F historic street car line down to Fisherman's Wharf. However, the hotel despite its name is a little more Tenderloin than Union Square and in this area a couple of blocks can make all the difference. I was shocked at the homeless situation right outside the hotel, the area has changed a lot in the last 15 years and I didn't feel safe walking around. Back to the hotel - its budget so everyone having a sook needs to get over themselves. Sure its rough around the edges, the floorboards creek, there is a water hammer etc.. but the room was clean, bed comfy and there was hot water! What more do you want for the price? You are in one of the world's most expensive cities! As others have stated the windows are thin and the outside noise of people yelling, dogs barking, sirens, loud music take a little getting used to, so wear earplugs. The front desk staff were all lovely and I appreciated the upgrade to a Queen Room overlooking the theatre and Geary Street and also the very early check in after a long flight.

My husband booked this through the hotels website for our recent stay in SF and made the mistake of not actually reading any of these google reviews first. The website isn’t an accurate representation of what you get while staying at the Union Square Plaza Hotel. Knowing that it is an older hotel, our expectations were already low, but after our very late evening check in to our room, I felt unsafe, creeped out and disgusted. The wall behind the bed had multiple holes in it, the ceiling had a large crack from what looked to be water damage and the floor was noticeably dirty. Upon closer inspection we found several long hairs, as well as a boot print on the white sheets. I could look past the bizarre decor choices in the room, but a filthy bed, that’s a no from me. With this said, the front desk personnel was very accommodating when we asked to switch to a different room, even at the late hour of 11pm. Our new room was seemingly at least clean. All this aside, I noticed someone else mentioning the unsafe elevator in a review from 5 months ago, and this issue has still not been addressed. The elevator has not been inspected since 2019. I don’t plan on returning to this hotel, but I hope this issue gets addressed for future hotel guests safety.

August.2023 - We stayed here for our wedding anniversary and these are our takes: 1.) Hotel service The receptionist Hansel accommodated us earlier than our check in time. They stored our luggage in their hotel after checking out so we can roam around one last time in Sanfo before we catch our flight. You get for what you pay for. They have one of the most budget friendly hotels near union square in sanfo that offers a private bathroom. Calling directly on their website could’ve gotten us a better deal by the way. 2.) Overall The stay was enough for us to enjoy our Sanfo Vacation. It depends whatever you prioritize, if you have money to pay for an expensive (or same price) hotel that you believe is better, go for it. However, if you’re on a budget and plan to spend the rest of your money in Sanfo while staying near union square, this is the ideal hotel for you.

This is a clean, quiet hotel and my room was adequate with a comfortable bed. The staff switched me to another room with no hassle as I was told all rooms had a mini fridge but mine did not. They are easy to deal with and try to make you happy which is good customer service & I appreciated it! The room rate was great, the location is 2 blocks from downtown & the amenities were good. They have filtered water in lobby & if you want to microwave something, they have that too in their basement, though I didn't use it this time. For all these reasons, I won't hesitate to stay here again, especially it's budget-friendliness!
