About Agartala Airport

The airport is named after Maharaja Bir Bikram. It is coded as IATA; IXA by the Airports Authority of India. Located around 12 km from Agartala, the airport is the second busiest in North East India. It is an international airport and has heavy daily air traffic. The new terminal of the Agartala airport has 20 check-in counters, 6 parking bays, and 4 aerobridges. There are many passenger-friendly and modern facilities which include conveyor belts, an in-line baggage system, and smooth escalators. The modern up-gradation of the airport is estimated to cost around INR 438 crore. It will expand the Agartala airport to 72 acres with a new terminal building, more runway addition, and two new taxiways. The Airport Authority of India and the National Thermal Power Corporation aim to develop a 2.0-megawatt solar power plant at the Agartala airport. The airport is set to become environmentally friendly and advanced in infrastructure in the coming years.
