Port Blair Airport, also known as Veer Savarkar International Airport (IATA: IXZ), is a customs airport located about 2 km south of Port Blair. It serves as the key link between the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the rest of the country. This airport is a civil enclave that shares airside facilities with the Navy's INS Utkrosh.

Veer Savarkar International Airport, named after the legendary independence hero, handles commercial aircraft as well as private planes. The airport has only one terminal with two departure gates and a total capacity of 400 passengers. Passengers may use complimentary trolleys to get their bags to the check-in counters. At the airport, first-aid medical facilities, and complimentary wheelchair services for elders and disabled travellers are available. The 6,100 sq m terminal has amenities such as a lost and found luggage desk and cafes. There are vehicle rental and taxi services available for travellers. The bus station is only 2 km from the airport and helps tourists travel to other parts of the islands easily.

Bhuj Airport (IATA: BHJ) is a domestic airport covering an area of 832 acres. The airport is located 48 km from the India-Pakistan border. The runway of the Bhuj Airport is shared with the Bhuj Rudra Mata Air Force Base.

The airport has two boarding gates, and all arrivals and departures are handled by a single terminal at the airport. Four check-in counters, one security counter, and one access gate are present. Various facilities are also available for passengers, including retail outlets, currency exchange desks, tourist helpdesks and cafes. The Bhuj Airport is located about 6 km from the city centre of Bhuj and can be reached via public or private road transport from the city.

About Bhuj

Bhuj is located near the Rann of Kutch in the state of Gujarat. Bhuj has a rich historical heritage. Since Bhuj was previously a walled city, there were 10 m high walls and towers built around the city. There was a hill that was strategically placed in such a way that soldiers could spy on the enemy and reinforce their defences. This hill is called Bhujiyo Dungar, and the city of Bhuj is said to be named after this hill.


The Rann Utsav is a well-known annual local festival. Makar Sankranti, Navratri, and Janamashtami are some of the other festivals celebrated in Bhuj. The city’s cuisine is heavily inspired by Gujrati cuisine, and dabeli – a potato-stuffed pav dish – is an all-time favourite snack.

Ramkund

Ramkund is a historic stepwell about 3.5 km from Bhuj Railway Station. The stepwell is a square-shaped well with a 56-foot-high side. Its walls are embellished with sculptures of figures from the Hindu epic Ramayana, including Lord Ram, Devi Sita, Lakshmana, and Lord Hanuman. The 10 avatars of Lord Vishnu may also be seen on the walls. Another highlight of this place is the Ram Dhun Temple, which is positioned just in front of the well.
