About Port Blair Airport

The official name of the Port Blair Airport is Veer Savarkar International Airport. The Veer Savarkar International Airport is the only commercial airport in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The place is situated around 6 km away from the city of Port Blair. The government of India renamed the Port Blair Airport to Veer Savarkar International Airport in 2002. The airport is named after the famous freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. The airportís civil enclave operates under the control of the Indian Navy. The airport can handle 400 departing passengers daily.

The Veer Savarkar International Airport has no aero ridges and functions with only two terminals, one of which is still under development. However, a new terminal is a work in progress, which will be much larger than the existing one. The new terminal is estimated to handle around 50 lakh passengers annually.
