Kullu (Kulu), also known as the 'Valley of Gods', is a prominent tourist attraction in Himachal Pradesh. It is located about 1,230 m above sea level, and has many great attractions – from magnificent views of the lush green valley and snow-capped mountains to the gorgeous temples and majestic hills covered in pine and deodar woods. Kullu is a popular destination for adventure sports like river rafting, trekking, paragliding, hiking, and mountaineering across Himalayan glaciers. Angling is another popular pastime among residents and visitors. Beginner mountaineers can hike through Beas Kund, Deo Tibba, and Hanuman Tibba. Kullu was earlier known as Kulanthpitha, which means 'the end of the habitable world’. Reference to this magnificent valley can be found in epics such as the Ramayana, the Mahabharata, and the Vishnu Purana. Kullu has a rich variety of wildlife, including musk deer, brown bear, barking deer, black bear, snow leopard, Himalayan tahr, porcupine, civet cat, flying squirrel, blue sheep, and other unique species. The flora here is also diverse, with mixed deciduous woods, bamboo, rhododendron, chilli, kail, oaks, deodar, fir, juniper, birch, and spruce. Many wildflowers, ferns, and medicinal plants exist in the woodlands and alpine meadows.
