Spent a last minute planned weekend in Venice. Initially disappointed at the location of hotel to San Marco; but throughout my stay appreciated how it was better to be away from tourist center and accessible to other areas of Venice. The location ‘Forced’ me to experience a broader offering of Venice. With a good map (actually Lonely Planet Pocket guide) and a desire to explore this is the perfect hotel.

Second time visiting Venice. Another fabulous Marriott Bonvoy property. We stayed here for 2 nights recently during our 6 weeks traveling though Europe. Modern hotel on the beautiful & historical Venice Island. Close to train & Vaparetto Station. Plenty of wonderful restaurants & cafes close by. We enjoyed our best ‘flat white’ coffees at a place near by. Rooms clean & comfortable. Did miss the slippers & dressing gowns which we often get when staying in some Marriott properties. Not a deal breaker though. Bar staff very friendly, enjoyed a couple of Bellini’s, which were fabulously presented. Front desk staff very helpful with directions for the area & arranging our van transfer to Trieste on check out. Highly recommend staying here if you’re visiting Venice.

I had a stay here in July, and I left with mixed feelings by the end. One of the front desk employees, which I found out later was newer, was not very hospitable. I asked for water on one occasion, and he told me it was in the room. This wasn't true because I drank the water in the room already. Later in the stay I found a refrigerator near the front desk where they sell water, which he didn't even offer as an option. We did encounter a young man at the front desk that was extremely helpful in sharing his knowledge of restaurants and nice places to visit while we were there. I found the breakfast area to be a bit unorganized with people entering, filling their plates, and later being asked what their room numbers were. On one occasion a family ended up getting charged for food after they started eating that wasn't part of their room. It seems like checking people in before seating would alleviate this constant feeling of policing. While a bit of a walk from some of the main tourist attractions, the location was excellent in many ways to avoid taking a boat or hiring someone to get your bags to a hotel further in the island. The stairs and bridges combined with the heat and humidity make the location excellent. We took a car from the airport and walked to the location without crossing any bridges or climbing any more than a few stairs to walk in the entrance of the building. Overall the stay was pretty good, but there are areas of improvement with some of the staff and operations.

I cannot for the life of me understand all these positive reviews. What a disappointment, and an expensive one at that. I’m a Marriott titanium member which means I spend over 2.5 months worth of my year in Marriott hotels. I also hold mid to high level loyalty on three other brands and this hotel is perhaps the most undeservedly pretentious property I’ve stayed at. First of all, Marriott elite members- don’t expect anything special. This is the first Marriott hotel I’ve ever stayed in that neither has a club lounge nor offers free breakfast or at the very least a voucher to fully cover a continental breakfast. Nope, for 280+ euro a night you’ll get a 10 euro food and drink credit. Breakfast was awful so just take the points and get better food for 3 euro in town. After explaining this, the very stuck up and rude front desk lady offered to help us with any reservations we might want to make. We gratefully asked for her help in getting us cabs to the airport. We told her we’d like to leave at 8:30 am. Her response was “well we have a taxi already coming for someone else at 8:30”. … … … I asked her what the issue was and she said it could be a problem for their cab company to send multiple cabs. She suggested we take a cab at 9 for an 11 am which would not give us enough time after she herself said we should be at the airport 2 hours before the flight. we were sick and too exhausted from travel to argue so agreed for an 8 am taxi. (With all the confusion we were a few minutes late for it the next morning, but not their fault). Room was dingy and depressing. Fingerprint smudges on mirrors and shower door. Dirty and scuffed walls. Stains on sheets (photo below) 18 euro Breakfast was inedible. Rotten fruit, tomatoes were mushy, bread was sawdust. Just go elsewhere. While only Zlata at the front desk was exceptionally rude to us, most other desk employees never acknowledged us coming or going. 4th and final hotel in Italy - most expensive and all of the other three had exemplary service, were clean, and did not serve rotten food. Bartender was quite friendly so point for him.
