Have just spent 2 nights here for a short weekend break. Managed to get an earlier check in, around 130pm, and even got upgraded from a city double to a superior double. Room was a good size with a large bathroom, bath and separate walk in shower. Staff were really friendly and helpful. We used the swimming pool and steam room, which were small but sufficient. Also has drinks at the bar on the first night, which had a good selection. The only small thing which was a bit annoying was every tinlme we used the shower, the bathroom floor outside got soaked. We resorted to putting down towels. There were other occasions the floor appeared wet even when the shower hadn't been used, albeit not to such an extent. Overall, I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for location, staff, service and value for money in January

We had a lovely stay at the Apex Waterloo in October. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, the staff was extremely attentive, friendly and helpful. The location is perfect for exploring Edinburgh. I would definitely stay there again on my next visit. We loved all of the special touches (the little ducks) and the swimming pool/sauna. Thank you to the staff at the Apex, you made our visit even more special. Cheers!

5 star staff running a 2 star hotel. Spent a few nights here. Excellent location. The staff on the most part are amazing. Especially front of house and bar staff. Nothing is too much trouble. But, would be better if they weren't sorting problems out. Two of us staying in the room (clear on the reservation) on check-in, only one towel in the room. Little things like only enough milk for one drink, one biscuit in the tray.. reception staff sorted this quickly. Then the next day, on our return at 4pm, the room hadn't yet been serviced (Staff were just getting to it). We went to the bar while it was done, but surely that is late to be room servicing. The room. Nice and spacious, bathroom had a newish feel to it. Bed was ok, but the pillows are those that go flat after you lie on them for 10 minutes, making for an uncomfortable sleep, constantly re-plumping them. Being an old building, you can hear everything going on outside. Constant traffic noise, people walking by, street cleaning at 5am. Investment in better windows or sound deadening is needed. I had to check they were actually closed at first !! Oh, we were also on the top floor, furthest from the street. The view was fabulous tho. Would I stay again. In short. No. Plenty other places to try next time.

We reserved a room for two nights in late October. We arrived and were met by very friendly and courteous staff at the front desk. Our room was on a lower level which turned out to be quite cold, but when we spoke to the front desk, staff responded immediately and moved us promptly to an upper floor. The room was spacious, very well appointed, and very clean. The view was spectacular. Overall, the hotel is beautiful and situated perfectly in the centre of Edinburgh. We felt that it was well worth the money (reasonably priced!). Again, the staff at the Apex Waterloo are friendly and spoke/behaved in the most professional manner. No reason to stay anywhere else in Edinburgh!

I was in room 209. The heater in the room was broken. In addition, the mirror in the bathroom was at about the 3 foot level. The room was right next to a loading dock, which started unloading at about 5:30 am. I requested another room and was told there were none available. When I looked on the website, there were additional rooms available. I was brought a space heater and a floor mirror. I had to turn the shower on to warm up the bathroom. This room should not have been rented or, at the very least, notified of the deficits. The service in the restaurant was excellent - the only bright spot of my stay at this hotel.
