This place is quaint, “rustic”, and in need of some love. The staff is super friendly. The view from the deck is amazing. Proximity to the waterfall is awesome if that’s what you’re looking for… but you’re not walking anywhere. If you need food beyond the included breakfast, you’re going to town and need a vehicle. Our room reeked like Fabuloso (all purpose cleaner) and it was so strong, it wasn’t the best place to hang out beyond sleeping. The pool, patio, walkways, deck, etc.. all of it.. is in serious need of a remodel. Needs freshening up like new paint, replace broken and missing tiles, and more. We did have bugs in our room… but we ARE in the jungle so I wasn’t surprised. You get what you pay for and this is indeed the cheap place at the top of the hill… if you’re looking for a the Ritz, or something like Sandals.. this isn’t the place. Your expectations of what this place is would be better off without expectation. It’s shelter and food.. and that’s really it. Some of the pictures here on Google are not even close to an accurate representation of the place. It was a cheap option for what we needed.. shelter and breakfast and a place as home base. We were barely here as we were out exploring all day during our time here. If you’re looking for a place to hang out, relax, do nothing, and expect it to be paradise etc.. keep looking. It’s as simple as it gets.

We had one of the villas which was located in the woods. The place was very spacious for a family of 5. One downside was that the room and all furniture and linens were damp and musty. The rooms smelled very strongly of moth balls. Definitely need a car as the hotel is not walkable to most places.

This place has every thing you need to enjoy a stay in la fortuna. (About 10 minutes from town or the hot springs outside town) It’s quaint and no-frills, but the beds are comfortable, the amenities (air conditioning, showers) function perfectly, and the pooldeck has an awesome view of the valley below. It is far enough out of town and at a high enough elevation that you hear uninterrupted birdsongs at dawn and dusk; no street noises or loud neighbors. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the included typical breakfast is delicious and clearly sourced locally/fresh plus the coffee is amazing . You also get free admission to the nearby trailhead which is a good but difficult one! Catarata La Fortuna is right next door too, and it is a must see in the area. Overall, I loved coming home to my cozy hotel room on the mountain side every night. The one thing I will say is the tile floors in the rooms can be slippery so be aware of that but it isn’t a big deal.

This hotel is very fun. The rooms are definitely outdated including frayed towels and you can see the age on the walls of the rooms and property. However, the staff was great and the gardens were beautiful. The hotel pool was half full the whole time (not sure why) also the breakfast had three options, one cup of coffee and one juice (delicious). We got the hotel for 103 Cad or 76 USD which to me felt a bit high for what you got. At the same time I'm unsure of the average hotel cost in La Fortuna. The hotel included access to a hike to the observatory which I think might be around 15 USD per person. It was raining while we were there and we didn't feel like a hike in the rain so I can't speak to the hike.

WORST PLACE !! Run!! Checked in on 29th of November, left my villa for a tour, came back 3 hours later to find out that both of our MacBooks , my Garmin watch, AirPods and even iPhone charger were stolen , by hotel workers! How do I know it was hotel workers- because no sign of break in, our villa was open with the key by those thief and they locked the door after themselves after they stole $3000 worth of our belongings. When we approached them they just started playing stupid, like oh, no way, blah blah, one of them even came to our room and started taking pictures- of what? Stolen stuff that is not in the room? It couldn’t be more obvious that it’s an inside job. Do yourself a favor and don’t stay here
