Auberge Saint-Pierre

Restaurant review: the staff person in charge of the ice cream yelled at me for asking if all the ice creams have dairy. She lifted her hands to show she was washing a dish and yelled “I’M BUSY! GO TO THAT STATION!” is she incapable of answering questions while washing? ShouldI make sure workers behind the bar are doing nothing before talking to them? I was a patron at a table so would be bizarre to leave the restaurant to ask about a menu item? (they sell ice cream also to people walking by so a line developed outside) Also, no need to be cruel person. Other issues: they didn’t bring us any water. And no one was in charge of seating new tables! You will have to find someone to seat you. They don’t have a clear division of labor among staff. It seems they exploit the fact that tourists have little other choice for food after 17:00.

I did not eat, nor did I stay here. I was visiting the abbey after 7p when most everything had closed and was taking photos of the empty streets. I came across a woman who asked if I knew where a bathroom was and I directed her to the main entrance, but she said it had been closed and she desperately needed to find one. I walked ahead and found an English speaking couple staying here at St Pierre and they suggested the bathroom in the basement. I walked back with the woman and another person in my group to find it. My friend entered to use the restroom but the woman took longer to walk to the entrance and before she could enter an older man blocked the door. He asked (in french) what we needed. We explained that she needed to use the bathroom and he asked if we were hotel guests, we answered no and he immediately SLAMMED the door closed. I told the woman to wait at the now locked door for my friend to exit. After a few minutes my friend returned, sure opened the door from inside and I told the woman to go and not say a word to anyone. 🙂 This man was the first time I encountered any unkindness in France. But this man is exactly why people believe that "French are rude" This man showed no compassion and I found it shocking that anyone would be treated like this in a sacred place. My advice to anyone reading this... 1. Use this toilet instead of walking back to the entrance 2. If you are at Mont Saint Michel late and the public toilets have closed, ask for a drink and use the restroom here... But don't order anything. Just use it and leave. 3. Don't order food here. 4. Don't stay overnight here. I will post this in multiple languages for everyone who needs it.
