The place is paradise. As authentic as on the pictures. Awesome friendly staff. Aya is at a nice place very calm and relaxed. (Beside of the construction works on neighbourhood place) - No good options if you want to go out. But this is not needed as the place offers all you need. A nice Restaurant with awesome beach view and sunset view. Prices are high for Zanzibar but still reasonable. Food is delicious. The outdoor gym is great and was the reason for us to come. The Equipment could be in better shape (bycicle) and lighter dumbbells are missing, starting from 12,5kg. Would be nice if SUP would be offered and water to brush the teeth would be free. Tours offered from the hotel should be same price or below the offers from locals.

Location We were picked up at the airport in a good private car at a reasonable price. The drive was long and winding, about an hour and a half. Reception The receptionist need a bit of training in hospitality . She told me that my 5-year-old daughter may not be allowed to eat in the restaurant, which I found offending! Later we solves this misunderstood issue with her manager. Payment It is better to pay in $$cash, as they charge a 5% surcharge for credit card payments. Beach The beach is clean and nice, but it is unfortunately quite shallow. There are also a lot of local villagers who will try to sell you things as soon as you step foot on the sand. But it's nice seeing the Masai and kids playing football Facilities The swimming pool is small, but the fireplace at night is a nice touch. The playground is also a good option for families with young children. The massage service is nice, but the rooms lack privacy. Overall experience The resort was nice, but the lack of amenities in the rooms and the slow service were major drawbacks. The beach was also disappointing, as it was shallow. Overall experience is good.

I can't understand why everyone is so excited about this resort. The food is truly excellent and most of the staff is helpful and friendly but the ordinary rooms are much too small. There is not even enough room to open two suitcases. Not enough shelves... No clothesline, nothing to hang up wet swimsuits outside. Uncomfortable chairs and an oversized table on the small terrace... The sunbeds are incredibly dirty, there are not always dry towels available, the bar closed at midnight on New Year's and there is often no ice / cold beer. Nobody offers you any drinks on the beach, there are no shakes, no fresh coconut (available on the beach). You have to go to the bar to order something. You only have one menu - which is really nice - but no snacks for lunch. Shouldn't be too difficult to make a sandwich.... If it is not on the menu, they can't do it.... Sansibar itself is highly overrated in my opinion. Stonetown is nice, you can look at Colobus monkeys - together with lots of other tourists, the so called "spice farms" are ridiculously small.... If you want to spend your time on the beach, soaking up the sun, then it's fine but don't expect exciting activities on offer. It's a rip off, if you ask me. Other islands have a lot more to offer for the same or even less money.

We moved here from another hotel which we weren't happy with. We really enjoyed our time here at Aya Beach. The beach was stunning although further down there was lots of litter. We collected four bin bags worth, but weirdly the litter doesn't seem to be in the sea. It would be good to see hotel staff perhaps looking after the beach a bit. There aren't any hammocks/ places to sit on the beach, but the outside areas on the grounds and around the pool had lots of places to sit etc with great views. Volly ball and boule are available to play as well as a trampoline and small play area. The rooms were great and cleaned often although there was a bit of a smell from the drains in the bathrooms. The food was great, but not really enough variety if you are staying any length of time, we got quite bored by the end as our food was included in our room price. Sandwiches would be a great addition to the lunch menu. All the staff were really friendly and helpful. Annoyingly we had trouble when paying the bill with some damage made to a sofa in our room which in our opinion we were charged far too much money for. Overall we were really pleased and had a great stay.

I have to say, that I have visited some truly stunningly beautiful places like the Amalfi coast and Santorini, and Aya Beach is right up there with its breathtaking visual delight. The photos I saw before booking don't even come close! At low tide, the ocean recedes and blesses you with variations of blue, and at high tide with variations of green and lots of swimming ops! The resort's garden is lovely and green. Aya's staff from Hawa and Lewis to housekeeping and the lovely ladies in the restaurant are amazing! Foodwise, I loved the avo on toast, the poached eggs on naan bread, and the oatmeal breakfast options. I also indulged myself with a massage which took me to heaven. I was so sad to leave, but I will be back again! *Side note* Understand that most third-world countries are struggling with power cuts and although there were some at the resort, it didn't take away from my spectacular holiday!
