Bold Hotel München Giesing

Friendliness 5/5 Room 3/5 Hospitality & Policies 1/5. Welcome to Perplexing Hotel! (especially for International Guests). Brutally honest opinion ahead... Before arrival I noticed a distinct polarization of ratings with this hotel with persons completely satisfied or not at all particularly between German and International visitors and now having completed my stay it all makes much more sense. I am a solo traveler who has stayed at several dozen European hotels over the past 15 years of all types and chains and will be writing from this view. The short version - They say no way too much for a business in Hospitality Services and while quite friendly, leaves an impression colder than the black and grey minimalist decor and youre more of a guest occupying their property than a paying customer. Longer Version LOCATION It is in a local/residential neighbourhood of Giesing with many schools and offices/businesses. The S and U bahn station (also called Giesing) are a fairly simple and unchallenging 10 minute walk from the hotel and had no problems commuting to and from the airport (even though it will involve at least 1 connection). The Sbahn lines will generally go to Munich East Station before changing direction heading into the centre but is still qquick and the tourist areas are accessed within 4-8 stops. Ubahn also a few stops away from the central tourist areas. THE STAY: This will easily put a bad taste in many travelers mouths. I emailed a couple months in advance and asked about early check in and identified I was coming from a great distance. A couple days later I had a reply from the hotel stating it would be unlikely to provide and if there was a room available for early check in it would come at a cost of 10 euros an hour. This is something that you may find in Las Vegas for example but in a European hotel, absolutely not! So before arriving it already puts the traveler on edge not knowing if they made a good decision in booking. I began my travels early in the morning in Europe at 1am Munich Time and arrived at hotel from airport at 11am tired, hoping to check in. A very friendly staff member firmly reminded me that check in would not be until 3pm and would simply not be possible. It was easy to see that the hotel was not fully occupied and is of a somewhat fair size (80-90 rooms?) so was obvious that it WAS possible but they have this policy in place to limit the amount of work for them. Ouch. So the hotel fee comes without staff service? So I took my weary self out into the streets of Munich for several hours before returning. So being bothered by the first impression, those who feel so will easily find more problems and issues and they will give you several to choose from! Squeaky beds, to all the english channels on tv not working, to 90's era wifi speed (for a business/aparthotel?), to thin walls and constant white noise from appliances or fans, along a laughably minimalist chair in your for seating. I will say in a positive manner, the room was very spacious and clean, bed comfortable, had a great view and nice hot shower (most of the time) and housekeeping was excellent. The hotel itself would not be suitable for families and more for solo and business travelers or couples Still tired from the commute, I decided to try the breakfast at the very end of one of the services. It did have quite a range but somehow was not upto par compared to other places. Perhaps i was bothered that the scrambled eggs were being served ice cold. I then asked to purchase an Americano coffee from the bar area for takeaway and was told "this simply isn't possible". Other hotels use paper cups for this, so not sure how this skips over Bold. I then went to the nearby NETTO for groceries for my kitchenette and not charged for the breakfast as i think the manager saw my displeasure. FINAL THOUGHTS I still would be quite open to staying here again. The things that missed the mark can be fixed if desired by hotel. .
