Extended Stay America Suites Houston I10 West CityCentre

Stayed from 10/20 to 10/22. My friend joined me in a separate room from 10/21 to 10/22. The room I was given was not suitable for any guest, but I did not realize how bad it was until the second night. I’m pretty tolerant of cheap hotels not being perfect as I’m a frequent traveler and I often stay in discount hotel chains. But this experience was awful. Broken microwave was replaced by staff (yay!). Bathroom shelf missing (inconvenient) Rusty towel bars flaking rust all over toilet (yuck, but not hurting anything) Carpet was squishy and there was a large stain on the carpet by the table (yuck, but I have slippers) The Bathtub / Shower did not work. The faucet was missing. Just a pipe sticking out of the wall. I discovered this at 11pm on the second night while standing naked in the bathroom. I called my friend across the hall and asked if I could use his shower. I put on my bathrobe and went across the hall to shower. When I went to discuss the issues with the room with the front desk attendant in the morning, I was immediately accused of not declaring a dog and "you have to pay for dog" when my friend's dog that stayed in his room and was paid for greeted me by sniffing my hand. When I realized what she was saying, I told her we were separate and my friend promptly pulled the dog to leave while I tried again to communicate the problems with the front desk attendant. After telling her about the shower, she demanded to know if I had come down and talked to the front desk attendant the night before... you know, at 11pm ... NAKED! No, I did not. I chose the simple solution of using the shower in my friend’s room (which was quite nice and did not have any of the issues my room had). She continued to argue with me about my course of action. But seriously? I WAS NOT GOING TO MOVE MY CHILDREN AND ALL OF MY BELONGINGS TO ANOTHER ROOM AT 11PM. After her unhelpful responses I decided to wait until I got home and call to speak with a manager. When I called this morning, I was informed there will be no manager available to speak to for 2 weeks, so I decided to go through my list of issues and see if they could offer some type of compensation (partial refund perhaps? I’m not sure. I definitely will not stay there again). After listing several issues and getting to the shower problem, I realized I was speaking to the same rude front desk attendant who then doubled down that I did the wrong thing by using my friend’s shower instead of coming to the desk and getting a new room. 🤦‍♀️ To add insult to injury, as my daughter came in on the second night, she and my friend were greeted by someone in the parking lot who was leaving and telling them not to stay there and they had found bed bugs in their room. I checked our beds and did not find any, but given the state of what I did see, I wouldn’t be surprised if she were telling the truth.
