Hampton Inn Philadelphia Center City-Convention Center

I was nervous about my reservation after reading all these negative Google reviews, but as it turns out, I was pleasantly surprised by my stay here and really enjoyed it. The staff were courteous, respectful, and accommodating. The unit I was originally given was very spacious, but the heater didn’t work, so they promptly addressed the issue by moving me to a unit on the same floor with a warm heater. The staff then called me to check in to make sure everything was OK in the new unit. I appreciated the follow-up, and also that they worked quickly to address an issue when it arose, and made it right. On top of this, staff helped me with a printing issue and were very friendly with all of my questions about the area and the hotel facilities. I was here for 3 nights for a conference and the location was prime—just a few minutes walk away from the Convention Center. The free breakfast is good. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Honestly, all of these negative reviews spooked me, but I had nothing but a good experience here. Thank you to the staff — I’d recommend this place and would stay here again!

I would recommend avoiding this place, it had some of the worst service I’ve ever experienced for the price I paid. First issue was check in, while I fully understand early check in is not guaranteed, they refused to even look up my reservation to see if my room was ready and said no rooms would be available until 3pm. This obviously makes no sense since rooms are cleaned one by one. By the time they finally let me check in at 3, there were over 30 other people also waiting in the lobby since 11am who were told the same thing. Then, about an hour after I finally got into the room, one of the housekeepers tried to enter my room unannounced for who knows what reason, but thankfully I had the latch closed. Most hotels have some sort of system so that they know which rooms have been cleaned, but it seems like they either didn’t know I had checked in or they didn’t know that room had already been cleaned. They only clean the room every other day which is fine, and I asked the front desk to skip my room one day but despite that when I came back my door was left cracked open and clearly someone had been in there cleaning. My door was right by the elevator and I’m just relieved I didn’t have anything stolen since anyone could have walked in if they wanted to since the door was unlocked. A simple solution would be for them to have Do Not Disturb signs available like literally every other hotel, but for some reason they don’t have those here. They also seemed to randomly choose which towels and disposables etc to replace, as when I checked in I had two and then after the cleaning that was supposed to be cancelled I got 3, yet they didn’t replace the near empty toilet paper roll, tissues, or coffee. Finally, they offered me 5,000 Hilton Honors points (a measly $31 equivalent) to make up for them entering without permission and leaving the door ajar. I didn’t receive the points by the time I checked out and they said something to the effect of “it’s on our list of things to do”. Still haven’t received them and I don’t even feel like it’s worth calling for $31 at an overpriced chain I never want to stay at again. There are clearly communication and systematic issues at this location, and they don’t seem interested in fixing it.
