I really like my experience at Hanare and of course I recommend it! Unfortunately I spent only one night, I was alone on vacation and I find their concept “the town itself is a hotel” very interesting. The neighborhood is very nice and quiet, it doesn’t even seem to be in Tokyo, it’s okay for those who want to take time to relax. The stay costs less if you travel in 2 instead of alone, but it is not rare to find solo travelers. The Nippori station is about 10 minutes from the hotel, I do not recommend traveling with many and large suitcases, also there is no elevator, for those who have many heavy suitcases I recommend the 1st (ground) floor. The staff is very friendly. The room is the same as the description and the photos, it has a particular smell but after it does not bother, who says that it’s small is wrong cause in Tokyo there are smaller rooms! The service was great, I loved both the Japanese style breakfast at Hagiso bar and the possibility to use the public baths (Sento)! I would definitely book it again!

This is more an experience than a hotel or inn. You are right in the center of the most historic/charming neighborhood of Tokyo. You will receive an incredible welcome reminiscent of Ryokan hospitality at its best. The company seems to be expanding its footprint in the area—we visited a charming gelato shop it has built around the corner. This was my second visit and I will definitely stay here again on my next vacation to Japan. It’s a perfect way to experience old Tokyo. However, please note: communal showers, hard futon mattress on the floor, narrow stairs. You can hear all your neighbors coming and going. Our room was small and smelled of some sort of Asian fermented food. So I wouldn’t recommend this for your first night in Japan if flying a great distance—it’s not very comfortable or conducive to a good night’s rest.

Hanare was an amazing experience and I could not recommend it more. The staff were incredible - welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable about the local area. The hotel was spotlessly clean, the shared shower room was excellent and free entry to local bathhouses was also included with our stay. The area is peaceful and quiet but well connected. The neighbourhood is vibrant with many small businesses and great places to eat. You really can't go wrong!
