Hotel del Paseo - Hostel

Positives: - location is great, 15 minutes walk to Central market and directly opposite huge supermarket - very cheap - fast WiFi - great views from social area on 5th floor - 24 hour reception - comfortable beds and great cleanliness - friendly receptionist Things to note: - I had 2 issues during my stay, neither of which were acted on when I mentioned them at front desk, but instead, more or less dismissed, making me feel like the hostel doesn’t value the comfort/safety of its customers: 1. No hot water in shower - was told that it’s been fine all the other times and to leave it running for 5 minutes. I have done this the 2 previous days and it still doesn’t work. Gave it one more try today and after waiting for 5 minutes, the shower tray was almost overflowing with water (poor drainage) and still no hot water. 2. if you are a female solo traveller, I'd advise that you call in advance before booking as for night one I was in the mixed dormitory alone (due to low occupancy), but on night two I was informed that I'd be sharing the room with just one other person, a man. I told the receptionist (who had otherwise been very kind, friendly, and helpful) that I feel really uncomfortable with this and he said that he could empathise. However, when asked if I could be moved to a different room, the answer was no as all other dormitories were going to be filled that night (but I saw only about 2 people the following day and the day of). He then tried to up-sell me a private dormitory for $50/$60 more for the night, which is more or less the price I've paid for the 3 nights in this dorm. So essentially I was left in a bit of an anxiety-inducing situation for that night, which I feel is disappointing customer service and could have been resolved in a much better situation for all involved (as has been dealt with well by other times I've been in the same situation in different hostels before)
