Great location, right by the castle. I could walk to everything in the city. The tram to the train station also picked up a block away from the hotel, which was very convenient. Reception let me check in my bags before my room was ready. The room was beautiful and comfortable. Only complaint I had was that my room was on the front side of the hotel, so early morning traffic and garbage pickup was disruptive. The hotel provided earplugs though. If you’re a light sleeper, I’d recommend asking for an interior room. Hotel also had a quiet bar with a decent beer selection for the evenings I didn’t feel like going to a bar. Overall happy in Ghent with this hotel.

We recently stayed at the Gravensteen Hotel in Ghent as a family and found it to be a pleasant experience overall. The hotel's location is fantastic, right in the heart of the city, making it easy to explore the charming streets of Ghent. We opted for two interconnected rooms, which was ideal for our family, giving us both space and convenience. The rooms themselves were modern and well-appointed, providing all the basic amenities we needed for a comfortable stay. While the hotel isn't overly luxurious, it offers good value for its price, especially considering its prime location. The staff was friendly and helpful, making our stay more enjoyable. It's a great option for families looking for a straightforward, accessible place to stay while exploring the beauty of Ghent.

Most things were fine during normal hours. Room was a bit warm, but manageable. Daytime staff was exceedingly helpful. But imagine this. You decide to go out on a Saturday night. You lose track of time and it's 2:30am. You head back to the hotel, to find a locked door, no doorbell and a handwritten sign that says to call a # that is not the hotel #. No one had mentioned it at check-in, so things are already a bit tense. You try calling the number, but because you have a foreign phone, you fail, and fail to dial the number multiple times. You are afraid of getting into the hotel at all, and out of fear you bang on the door. When someone finally comes, (which moments before you had little confindence would happen), they point out the sign with the number, as if it is a good system for a hotel that is bound to house tourists with mobile connection issues. Of course, you respond, angrily, that you tried somewhere around 5 times already. Upset and unnerved, you can't help but think that a doorbell would have been a simpler system to use, and really not that expensive to install. All that said, let's see if I can get to sleep now.
